tbh there are a lot of active SM senior groups unlike other big3. If they would choose to do a cover it would be from one of their own senior. In JYP the only senior even active is Twice and no one else. They don’t have as many options from their own roster as SM does so it makes sense that they’re performing from other companies.

(By active I mean still with the company)

This is mostly true. It could actually be interesting. I would love to see another girl group cover from aespa. I think Sm is too strict about this, being a big company doesn't mean they always honor themselves. They can honor other groups, even if they are rivals.

Well, groups usually cover their role models? I'm guessing SM groups' role models are usually other SM groups?... idk.

It’s an aespa thing not an SM thing. Other SM artists cover different artists all the time. I remember SNSD was amazing at that. Like they literally introduced me to popular western artists when I was a kid because of their covers.

Most Gayos are filled with SM songs covers more than any other because SM has that many old hits/legacy.

Other kpop idols cover more SM artists songs than aespa too. aespa barely perform their own songs. They don’t even perform their bsides like other groups sigh…
