I think the main thing the discussion is missing that many kpop fans, especially fans on twitter, token stan groups as a way to drag other groups. This is mostly seen among girl groups at this time because there's no one single group that's dominate. People pick up and put down groups based on who is currently doing the best so they can therefore use to score more points against another group in a fanwars.
I do think once more big boy groups debut and start doing well we will see it for them as well. We've seen it on a smaller scale for TXT/Enhypen/Ateez/Stray Kids.

girlgroups only get attention and gets fandom nowadays if they chart well in korea, lots of ggs like Weeekly, Loona, Everglow etc is quite known internationally or have popular songs but they can't get fandom or becomes stagnant because no korean relevance

as someone who’s both a gg and bg stan… i don’t like overly popular ggs, often they’re too generic, and i dont stan bgs because of visuals, i just like their themes and songs and dances better, they’re also just more entertaining to watch in general. also, as someone who really likes bgs, i’m actually not attracted to them. i just like them purely for personality and talent.

the issues as always is the loudest voices (especially on twitter as the OP in the anons linked to) are often the minority
the vast majority of fans of anything hobby - are good decent people who don't need to go around shitting on their rivals or other people - they enjoy their hobby or group or activity in peace and quite
however we just don't hear of the good people because they don't make noise...it's mostly the "bad" fans who need to go around social media or whatever to not bring up their own favs but to actively shit on their rivals
