why is red velvet a favourite of multis and casual listeners?
is it true red velvet is always a favourite of kpop multis and casual listeners but they don't really translate to a hardcore fandom? if you think so why is that?
OP
Red Velvet represents the transition between 2nd and 3rd gen. If I remember correctly, they were the first big 3rd-gen girl group. While Blackjacks and Sones, two 2nd-gen fandoms, were at it, Red Velvet was something new and fresh. There was no reason to come at them.
Also, Joy's smile is very likable.

I'm sure the nostalgia for simpler times is a factor as well.
Bonus theory:
They don't really flex in their songs, so they give off a very humble vibe. They don't even diss their haters. The closest we got from them was Irene's iconic "I'm original visual" line.
Sadly, a lot of K-pop fans have a problem with idols being confident badasses. We haven't really seen that from Red Velvet aside from the time they sang about shooting men.
