[BTS CONTENT] Can/Will BTS be the first Asian act to out gross/preform Ed Sheeran in tour attendance and revenue?

  • It's just a waiting game - when they are ready to do a group and proper world tour, it will be the opportunity to will to break the record. It could have been broken if the MOTS:7 tour wasn't cancelled due to the pandemic but that's history now. ARMY's loyalty shouldn't be questioned -- so many ARMYs have never had a chance to see them in-person (like me) and even if years go by, we will still wait and try.

  • The record that you were saying is for Europe. Here is the top 10 highest grossing tour of all time:

    forum.allkpop.com/suite/attachment/247432/

Ed Sheeran topped the list with the ÷ tour grossing at 822M USD for and had 8.7M attendees (255 shows) within the course of 2.5 years.

MOTS:7 tour was supposed to have 39 shows with a total of 1,950,000 attendees. And was supposed to have 43 shows with a total of 2,150,000 attendees since they always add second dates per venue. This is not even considering the fact that they were supposed to add Australia, India and etc in their tour as revealed by BTS themselves. If the tour wasn't canceled, then they would probably finished with 50 shows with 2.5M attendees in a single year.

I noticed there's no Asian countries besides Japan & SK and other countries that they used to tour and it was probably due to military (before Jin was granted 2 yrs extension). So I supposed, HYBE prioritized bigger market for touring which makes sense. However, their supposed record breaking tour was thrown into trash due to covid.

Anyways, what I want to say is that BTS can definitely pull 3M attendees in a single year and they probably can do 4M - 5M attendees within the course of 2 years. Which is enough to enter the top 10 highest grossing tour. And their touring revenue will easily add up once they add online & cinema viewing. They only need to release another hit song, proper album and promote their concert as much as they can.

The remaining problem is their impending military and their capability to tour that long. Kpop is performance focused compared to the American pop stars wherein they only need to stand and sing. It can definitely take a toll in their body and IDK if they are willing to go through that hardship esp since they have numerous revenue stream and they don't need to solely depend on touring like a traditional pop stars do.

To your question, we can only assume so not unless BTS start touring again. Just want to add that MOTS:7 tickets were 97% sold out one week after it was released. And this happened early in 2020 before Dynamite and Butter happened. And now they doubled their fandom with high spending power. Their touring already shows with their online shows. So, imagine if they really do a proper world tour...

they could probably do 1M attendance in just Japan alone given how much they blew up there with dynamite...

  • If you look at the numbers you would realize that the only reason Ed broke the record is because he is a hustler. His shows were cheaper and he played to smaller venues but he toured for years and had a lot of dates, like almost double the number of dates as the previous record holder. So yes, BTS can easily break that record with less concert dates because they can fill larger venues and earn more from each date. If BH and BTS want to do a WW tour in 2025/2026 then that record can be easily shattered. They could’ve shattered that record this year they had toured or done a residency. They wouldn’t even have had to tour the entire year.

IDK. BTS has no motive to tour a hundred shows cause they simply don't need to. So, it really depends on them. If we're going by attendance, then it's unlikely that BTS can break Ed's record the next time they tour.

But if we're talking about the gross revenue, then they can break it if they tour with 98 dates with an average of $6.5M per show. Just make them tour for 20 - 24 months, so it won't be hard on their body. Then with a push of $150M for their online & cinema live viewing, which totals with $790M then they can def break the highest grossing record of all time in Touring.

  • Will update OP.

BTS were averaging around 8-9 million per show with PTD LA and LV. This was just the lucky few that were able to get tickets. There were a lot more that would have attended if tickets were available because they filled the live play theatres. They would have easily surpassed Ed record for highest grossing tour with only 70-80 dates. So it could have been achieved in less than a year because they could have just done residencies for a few weeks at each stadium. The only thing limiting them was the number of dates and tickets that they were willing to sell. Either way, we both agree BTS would have no problem breaking the record for grossing tour or attendance. It just depends on if BTS wants to or not.

Yes. But the ticket prices depends on the market. I just followed BTS previous touring stats. Like, BTS can tour in Allegiant Stadium & some stadium in Indonesia and have the same attendance per show, but the gross revenue will be much lesser in Indonesia cause their market is smaller. Obviously, they will earn more in bigger markets like USA.

  • If anyone's interested in stats and touring. Then check this out. I made this recently when I was stucked in my hotel room in Seoul, so I had a lot of time compiling and checking data.

IMO, this will be the most realistic stats or event for their next tour. This is obviously can change like the gross if HYBE hike up their ticket prices next time, and once they stretch out more dates to accommodate more countries/cities/continents. For example, they have a big following in South America so they can add more dates there.

They may not break Ed Sheeran's record next time they tour, but they will be in the TOP 10 HIGHEST GROSSING TOUR OF ALL TIME. That's enough already.
