Why Do Suzy's Songs Sound So Bad???

Well at least she cares enough about music to release something once in a while.

Most idols are simply in it for the 'celebrity' life, and if they find it from acting, instagram modelling etc., they drop music-idol work as though it never existed for them.

As to Suzy, it is not as though she had the reputation like Taeyeon, IU or even Eunji when it came to singing.

Wonyoung is the perfect contemporary example, how many are into her for her vocal-musical abilities?

In these cases, the popularity is entirely on their beauty and brand image.

So it is not surprising that her song (subjective liking apart) aren't firing up the charts. Her popularity will ensure that they chart decently as long as they are infrequent. But that is about it.

If she truly is into music, then it sucks for her, because her beauty itself might be the obstacle for that and she will not be taken seriously.

And time - even if Jang Nara or BoA - massive hit makers of the past, release anything new today. It is doubtful that the song will achieve heights relative to their reputation.

K-pop fans today, aren't even aware of Infinite, SuJu etc., what will they remember of MissA.

Not sure the singing itself is the problem as much as the atrocious mixing and production. Sounds like everything is turned to max, no dynamics and it drowns out the singing.

Well, in terms of Satellite, I'm pretty sure that's how it's supposed to sound.

Except it doesn't: Her vocals are still mixed really high, there's no reverb, and they sound weirdly isolated from the instrumental.

Sonically, the compressed, low-end rumble of the guitar reminds me of Hum:

But I imagine they were more trying to evoke this:

Both of these songs have the same kind of emotionally detached vocals that Suzy's channelling, except they're very deliberately pushed further down the mix. Also there's less enunciation than what Suzy does, which, again, I think is her struggling with the language a bit.

tbh, I think the idea is dead-on-arrival. You can make this kind of music with typically bright, poppy vocals. They do it in j-pop:

I only like two of Suzy's songs. Gu Family OST "Don't Forget Me" and While You Were Sleeping OST "I Love You Boy"

factssss. More kpop artists should try a concept like what Suzy tried in Yes No. The vibe is just so amazing and unique.
