Ok, stupid need help: Gaon, Hanteo, Circle etc

Someone educate me on the sales:

Update gaon is now called circle.

Hanteo, gaon, circle - like what is actual sales? I’m seing 1,4 with BP on hanteo - and 2 mil and 5,1 mil on circle and…

Melon which is no longer melon - what ? Why does points disapear over night?

What is bugs? I mean, come on now.

And what about Billboard numbers? Oricon? China sales?

I’m confused

Please help

They sold 1,4M on Hanteo (this is a few stores majority from SK IF I'm not wrong...)

2,2M with shipped albums they sold more

And overall their sales are 5,1M

This was just bp numbers but I’m in general not sure about numbers around album release. I don’t care personally but it’s nice to know how it’s calculated.

Billboard Japan counts all sales worldwide, while Oricon only counts singles/albums only bought in Japan.

You buying from a Japan online store to be shipped to you (outside Japan) = doesn't count on Oricon.

Gaon and Circle are the same thing.

Basically Circle is the number of albums that were shipped to retailers for sale. If any albums are returned from retailers this number is adjusted down at the end of the year.

Hanteo is albums sold, but ONLY at Hanteo certified retailers. If a store isn't certified no sales will count toward this chart. Most US retailers aren't Hanteo certified unless they specifically deal with K-Pop.

Many people argue that the gap between the two charts must be close or else it's proof that the Gaon/Circle sales are fake, but this isn't true. Many stores outside of Asia just aren't Hanteo certified and are instead certified for the countries they're in.

For instance most US retailers are part of SoundScan which collects sales for Billboard. Any US Blinks who went to Target to buy their albums are going to count toward their Billboard total and not Hanteo, but will be reflected on Circle because those albums were shipped to Target for sale.

Billboard counts sales from SoundScan retailers. Almost all US retailers are part of SoundScan. Any albums bought in stores in the US or bought from these retailers online which are shipped to a US/PR address will count toward Billboard provided they follow the set rules (four albums per order per credit card).

(Also a note about Billboard.... while most retailers are part of SoundScan, not all of them are and because of this the RIAA has their own system for gathering sales for certification. So any time you hear "X's new album was certified Platinum by the RIAA" know that that Billboard may show a lower number.)

Oricon is the major chart in Japan. I believe that sales are only counted on Oricon if they are physically bought in Japan or are shipped to a Japanese address.
