Prediction: We will hear more samples in K-pop this year and next

  • My prediction is that we'll hear more samples in K-pop pretty soon. It's already been happening and I'm glad it is.

Gone are the days of K-pop companies hiding the fact that they take inspiration from other sources. Artists from other genres have no problem stating where they get their inspiration from, but the moment it comes to K-pop, it's a taboo topic to talk about and fans instantly get defensive.

Music is naturally collaborative even if indirectly, so it looks like we're entering a new, much welcomed era!

IVE's new song samples Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive."

BLACKPINK's "Pink Venom" sampled Rihanna's "Pon de Replay."

Red Velvet's "Feel My Rhythm" sampled "Air on the G String" by Johann Sebastian Bach.

  • But a lot of Kpop songs are sample. It’s just that it isn’t blatant. Even HYLT has a sample.

(I think HYLT and PV have the same sample)

  • I mean most kpop song are already sample anyway

Maybe not samples, but they take inspiration from elsewhere, which is completely normal. I'd be worried if they didn't because that means they're trapped in a secluded place somewhere in the world.

Actual samples in K-pop were a bit more uncommon until this year, I would say.

  • But a lot of Kpop songs are sample. It’s just that it isn’t blatant. Even HYLT has a simple.

Yeah, that's true. It was just less noticeable before.

But I'm glad it's becoming more blatant so fans would normalize it instead of falsely accusing groups and companies of plagiarism.
