First of all I want to preface by saying I honestly don’t care if Jennie or any other idol gets dragged. But I’ve got to speak up about the absolute irony of this Jennie situation.
Jennie is in an American production surrounded by people from the said culture and is part of a show that’s produced and owned by people from the said culture she is appropriating.
By definition CA occurs when you’re profiting of another culture without any recognition given to that culture. So yes when kpop companies do it for “swag”or whatever it is 100% CA. By all mean continue calling that part out.
The Weeknd’s production is EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE OF THAT
Like it is the OPPOSITE of CA. She is participating in something that’s created, produced and co written by The Weeknd. There are people who are literally part of the African/African origin culture calling the shots in this show. We don’t know her character, we don’t know the context of the story that the weeknd is tying to tell. We literally know nothing.
And I see so many people so removed from US/CAN, like literally random ass people from other parts of the world whom I definitely know are completely removed from this issue talking about how “she should know better” like wtf lol.
People don’t know or understand why CA is bad or why we talk about CA and that’s often visible when kpop Stans talk about issues like this.
