Is physical album sale the only way a group can make a profit and survive?

Ah yeah on touring sometimes. Kard's success comes from international fans so touring is important to them. Now that J.Seph's back, they will be touring again soon.

I was going to say merch and concerts were the best way but you said "nugu."

from what i hear for nugu groups performing at kpop festivals are the way to make money. Also fanmeetings.

Not really because if a group is popular enough to actually make decent profit from album sales they are popular enough to make a lot of money from other things as well.

Also if they able to earn decent amount of money from albums they aren't exactly a nugu group anymore.

Nugu groups actually tend to perform a TON. Brave Girls famously performed Rollin' at more than 100 live events before it randomly went viral.

From what I heard

1) Tours- but only if your group is capable to do it.

2) Album sales + merchandise

3) Events- This is a big money maker for smaller groups

4) Various sponsors

5) streams- by far the lowest money maker which is funny because it is what fans look at the most. But to be fair it is a good indicator of song popularity.
