I don't see how it's a power play when 2 idols from 2 different groups say they had issues with SM weeks ago which weren't resolved hence them not attending. Taeyeon mentioning lack of prep is so on trend for SM for years as seen with QC issues on her merch, small concert venues resulting in fans demanding more dates and zero promo for her latest album.
17 years later SM still can't do basic things like spell "Girls' Generation" correctly on official SM 30th merch
With the way SM handles things these shills might want to be careful their jobs aren't axed some day.

Your premise is immediately invalid as BP were soundly beaten by Twice in almost every criteria for for close to half their career until they finally blew up.
SNSD vs 2G is a bigger domination. From 09 onward SNSD were at the top or around the top every criteria from music like digital, physical and touring to cfs, TV ratings, hallyu. This was an era were the gg scene was highly competitive as multiple ggs could get number 1 or have popularity with fans and public yet through it all SNSD became THE defacto face of Kpop because of their dominance. Others 2G ggs might have matched or beaten them in 1 area but absolutely nobody could ever come close to them in everything else esp over such a long time (that and all their peers disbanded long before them).

Gasp SM remembers fx existed lol.

S2 really sucked for almost everything.
The fucking police brother side plot didn't amount to anything just like in S1 even though the first 2 eps were about him and his plan to raid the games. He should've stayed "dead" instead of wasting so much time.
Almost of the side characters were forgettable or led to nothing. Top as Thanos was cringe but at least entertaining to watch as the villain but then he just dies in the least interesting way. The pregnant girl has done nothing, the bitcoin guy is lame, the hot piercing girl dies before she had any character, the scardy cat who the pierced girl liked is detestable. The only worthwhile people are the mother and son duo (mainly because of the mother scolding him lol) and the trans person who is one of the few that has a personality and does things.
Then there's the main plot. The games finally start 3 eps but that's half the series gone. The games are eased passed with little to no named characters in danger. The final episode was meh action but dragged far too long until the final moments.
Honestly there shouldn't have been a S2. All the things that made S1 great aren't in here at all.

It's been awful for weeks now
I see. I got a notification, clicked the link to take me to your post and it's a reload loop. I Haven't used this site much over the last couple years but damn it's gone to shit, it struggles to do the basics lol.
...
Literally as pressed reply for the above it loads, hangs for a bit, reloads the page and my post isn't actually there. I had to press reply again to make it go through.

It's hard to compare eras one to one. BP is in a time when Kpop is more accessible worldwide thanks to digital so pure raw numbers is on their side. Even non top tier groups have more Spotify listeners, YouTube views, album sales etc more than SNSD ever did so does that mean groups like Le seraphim or Izone are bigger than SNSD?
SNSD for their time was unstoppable and mega influential. They were equivalent of Spice Girls in UK level of dominance. They ruled the charts, album sales, ruled TV (mutiple own TV shows and even the face of Olympics coverage), face of Korean tourism, all types of CF from fried chicken to luxury items. They were full on pop culture icons that influenced society.
Industry wise they pushed it further by leading the Kpop expansion worldwide (aka hallyu), were the biggest touring gg in the world, set records on Japan, made appearances worldwide media like USA TV and other countries news (in UK our newspapers even featured them a few times), biggest gg worldwide on YouTube and so on. They are also mega influential on idols as they directly led to influx of large member ggs becoming common sight, some many groups were made to emulate SNSD in some form including Twice and BP (originally meant to be a YGSNSD but trainees left/dropped and BP project came out of what was left) many new idols entered the industry because of them, conpanies training regimes use SNSD as the standard to aim for.
The phrase gets thrown around a lot but SNSD is one of the few that actually "paved the way".
Also what is with this site, it's so slow and buggy wtf. I keep getting stuck in endless reload loops.

SM taking the biggest Ls since the management change.
Only a few years ago SM had the strongest gg lineup in Kpop with SNSD members, Red Velvet and Aespa. Fast forward to now and SNSD is all but over and likely members of RV won't renew and all that's left is Aespa. Boa is rumoured to be retiring too this year. SM town from now will be a sausage fest.
Also nice to see everyone in SNSD is in their natural hair colour.

SNSD v 2NE1 purely because Sone v BJ was hilarious and fun. Tons of shit posting and memes
Twice v BP felt more mean spirited and definitely devolved quicker to death threats and racism.

I think it's mainly that 3G onwards have more hardcore fans. Iirc Wendy outsold Taeyeon in same time frames of their careers yet it's clear to anyone Taeyeon is a much bigger idol and has a significantly bigger appeal to public listeners.
Irene is even more popular than Wendy so it makes sense she's going to be best seller in SM. I wouldn't be surprised if an Aespa member solo album beats Irene and she becomes the best selling female in SM, Karina in particular might even go for 1m.

Yes. Fans are obviously the main money maker and support system for an idol career but having public on board also really helps especially for having careers outside music like TV, fashion etc. There's a reason why groups like SNSD and Big Bang are still very relevant and popular despite not been active as groups for years, they won the public favour and it solified their status. However actually getting the pubic on your side is a huge task and it's extremely easy to lose them through scandals, bad CBs or a new trending group taking the spotlight.

Make Seohyun president, she'll make South Korea great again. All she has to do is nothing and not go to jail and she's immediately better than 90% of their presidents lol.

Forget charts, ITNW is Korea's 2nd national anthem.
Theres clip scenes like this going around where ITNW is the first song to play at the moment of impeachment

It's been an ongoing problem for years that compared to other SM artists Taeyeon barely gets any promo or backing.
She doesn't like doing music shows alone so it makes sense she's not in them but she's barely on elsewhere. She often has a couple TV appearances and that's it like her most recent CB. Other SM acts also get paid ads on YouTube but she never has (personally I've never seen a Taeyeon ad whereas I've seen a few SM BGs ads pop up). Despite all the shes I think the overall the most successful and consistent hit maker in SM since going solo almost a decade ago so she's achieving huge results with very little input which is good for SM but is taking fans for granted or milking them.
Tour wise she's getting the short end of the stick. Her concerts are in smaller venues and only for a couple days. Due to high demand extra days were often added. There were protest trucks at SM last year of fans protesting the small venue sizes when she toured in their counties. Depsite the smaller venues with her last tour Taeyeon became the biggest touring Korean female soloist ever surpassing Boa.
Quality control of her albums and merch has also been an issue with miss spellings, incorrect pictures, low quality materials. Recently her latest mini album is super thin with flimsy packaging and a bunch of ploaroids. It still costs the regular album price.
This time something big happens BTS with management because she's explicitly said things aren't good and she didn't want to attend SM town which is a huge thing to proclaim for SM 30th anniversary. Now it's revealed the official list doesn't have her name meaning she’s not attending and possibly no longer attending future SM towns.
SM has fumbled hard across the board (except Aespa but they’re the biggest group right now) due to new management after LSM was ousted and considering other artists have left in recent years like Exo and Shinee members there's a very real possibility this time she's leaving. It’s the end of an era.
