But they've overlooked gems and they've debuted their fair share of "eh, I guess they're okay" idols, let's be real. It's not like getting into Oxford, cause you need the grades for that, it's more like a hierarchy. Everyone applies there, they pick who they want - for talent, visuals, other things like nationality or variety or whatever, and they can easily overlook talent too. Like maybe Dr Kim didn't think your face had visual potential but another company's surgeon had a genius idea for your big ass forehead! who knows.

of course Big 3 work as hard as other idols, but it's also a fact that they're guaranteed exposure and promotion and security in their idol endeavours that small company idols are not. That's what we call Big 3 privilege and it's just a fact.

also nah, they're still a group mostly reliant on visuals. Like, half visuals half all-rounders with 2 members with above average talents, Yuri (vocals) and Chaeyeon (dance).

like objectively, neither is even in the top 5 in terms of talent of their group. People always talk about Wonyoung and her "amazing" expressions but she always has the same half-smile and does the same stuff every time. I know people were impressed when she was 13 but realistically, she's already hit a plateau in terms of her potential. Sure she can still get better but by now everyone has surely realised she's neither gonna be an outstanding dancer or singer and if she wasn't so pretty and tall, nobody would be talking about her stage presence either.

Sakura is and always has been a visual first. I feel like people really fall all over themselves if there's a visual who's not dead-eyed, but honestly they're both quite mediocre performers. Nice idols though.

Jin and then RM are from the most well-off families as far as we know.

We know they got to spend some time overseas for their education, that's upper middle class and upper class level.

Then I think JK, JM, JH as middle class kids, then V and Suga as working class kids (though I think V's parents got wealthier with time, since he could attend dance school and play an instrument as a teenager)

obviously Jin and RM were raised very well and are polite and nice, and Jin as the richest, has never shown hints of being spoiled, I think he has a great personality. But also let's not pretend here that wealthy privilege isn't a thing! You can still turn out a great person while benefitting from the opportunities a rich family offers, no, it's not the same as growing up poor. I never could have spent a semester abroad and I wish I could have. Couldn't go to a private school which meant not getting into the better universities too. These things DO matter.

I only see ppl talk about Chinese physical sales when over half of a group's sales come from there. Chinese fans are known to bulk buy a lot, solo fanbases are known to compete for more sales etc.

but mostly people mean digitals and that's entirely fair. Most digital sales websites have ZERO regulations. One person can buy thousands of copies of one single and it won't even cost them that much cause it's so cheap. That's why these sales are not included in audited charts etc.
