  • I know a lot of people whine about self produced groups but their behind the scenes are always interesting. It's nice to listen to the whys behind the music choices and the lyrics.

one thing to note about the whole concept/ideas/music genres of album is that

when groups talk about it over and over in all radio interviews, and more it also probably become boring for members to answer same questions

and with second thought, it's not like 16 or even 18 year old kids need to do a deep dive into fantasy worldbuilding lol

  • I view most kpop idols, especially in their first few years, as the musical equivalent of fashion models. A living canvas that others display their works on or through.

A fashion model is a pretty, beautiful person upon which other people, fashion designers, use to display their designs in the best, most attractive light. The model don't know much about what the designer was thinking or doing when creating the items the model wears.

Idols are very much the same. Pretty, beautiful and talented in their own right upon which other people, writers and composers, use to perform their compositions and songs in the best, most attractive light.

This is pretty much the norm in a manufactured industry such as kpop, and interviewers that act surprised by this have either a) not really done their homework or b) do know, but want to write a negative or "shocking" piece about it.

  • and this is why i adore the stayc girls. they have always been vocal about how they want to approach their music.

  • there is nothing inherently wrong with Edward's comments...

since until the group becomes somewhat successful what company would give more artistic freedom to a bunch of teenagers and barely adults???

if such persons wished to have more artistic freedom they wouldn't get into kpop in the first place

This. Oh wow K-pop idols don't know anything about the music they do. Well, yeah. That's why they're K-pop idols and not indie musicians. Most of them probably know little about the releases the company has them doing.

at the end of the day everything comes down to MONEY

training, accommodation, food, production etc etc all cost money

if any individual want more freedom they can have it if they have they money if not then you abide by the whims of the one who is providing the money

I mean in Korea its basically their only route aside from being a solo ballad singer, the rappers are mainly indie, same for the bands but give the people a good slow ballad and they'll attend in droves

  • This is wrong though

Imagine being asked what work project you are working on or details of the degree you are majoring in and you have no clue lol

Both those things are things that require active and ongoing involvement and input from you to be able to be completed. You can't sit by passively while others do all the work and then be the one to get the credit in the end.

To use your example of the degree, I see most of kpop (again, especially newer/younger idols) as having someone else, or multiple someones, do all the work for your degree for you. All the assignment work, the essays, etc and just hand it to you so you can submit it. SOME people may take some active involvement in the process, see whats being done by the others for them etc, while others will just wait until the work is completed, give it a cursory glance and then submit it. And if asked about the contents of the work, won't really know whats in there, whats it really about.

    Or...

I used to work as a line cook at a Tex-Mex restaurant that had a few locations. I was on the nachos/quesadilla/burrito station most of the time. Yes I knew the ingredients to make them, yes I knew how to prepare, cook and plate them during service and I was REALLY good at presentation for them.

But if you sat me down to interview me about the recipes themselves, about why head chef and corporate chose the particular ingredients, chose the particular plating style I had to follow, selected the particular ingredient suppliers and all that deeper, behind the scenes stuff... I had no fucking idea. My job was to prepare, plate and serve the work that others had already done the hard work in planning, testing and creating.
