it's probably a mix of both, yeah. even the most independent artists are still under contract and have obligations and rules they have to follow. they can't actually do whatever they want for the most part, even if they have a lot of control over their images and careers.

and there are idols who probably do want to do more, but don't have much control, so it's ultimately up to the company.

they're probably not completely helpless, but they still have people above them they have to refer to

2. Bad things: all the fault is on the company

when you are bound by a contract there will be certain things expected of you. No.2 in your OP thinks this is forced or mistreatment. In reality every artist has a certain level of autonomy in their career except those in slave contracts.

if for some reason it has been proven that the ugly ass outfit is actually the idol's own clothing choice, the post would be veeeeeeery different, maybe something like :

'omg at first glance the outfit didn't suit her but now after i looked at the performance she shined in those outfit, my bias would never choose wrong outfits' or 'maybe the clothing choice is because my bias is uncomfortable in the other outfit, respect her choice pls'

yall rarely mention the stylist for giving good outfits but always quick to attack their stylists when the outfits were ugly as hell
