I don't know why people assume there has to be some chart manipulation going on, we all know what K-Pop fans are like when it comes to bulk buying. Aside from BTS and BP and correct me if I'm forgetting someone, no K-Pop group will chart high on the BB 200 without physical distribution. Add physical sales and some US-specific perks and they're all suddenly top 10 or top 5 challengers.
but I get annoyed at all the Stays who claim that it's impossible to chart on the BB 200 without physicals (and that's why they haven't before) - no it isn't, only for K-Pop groups cause their fandoms are too small to compete with actually popular US artists (BTS and to an extent BP excluded) on streaming and digitals.

I suppose when they say It - at least most of them - they are talking about current K-pop groups only. I think It's well known, apart from K-pop groups and a few other exceptions, pure sales isn't the main way of music consumption in the US It's been a long time.
Everyone is watching acts topping BB200 selling less than 1000 pure sales every month. SKZ's competitor for #1 is exactly one of them.

to be fair, pure sales isn't how music is consumed anywhere, not even by K-Pop stans. I mean, how many K-Pop fans actually have a CD player, we're not buying albums for the actual music, we listen to that online too, just like everyone else, the rest is just for collecting purposes and to show support.

I know, I meant "music consumption" in how It impacts in the chart in comparison to other metrics. Maybe I didn't use the right words. Sorry, english isn't my first language.

billboard literally limits the number of physical or digital copies per person
Then by logic, that just mean many people purchase it physically and digitally, but some can't accept the fact by thinking their faves are the only can do it
