song is a flop for me. kept waiting for something to happen
[Bop or Flop] Jay Park - ‘GANADARA (Feat. IU)’

Very interesting meta skit kind of MV.
But the whole thing is built around IU's presence - the marketing, the anticipation, the tension, until she shows up
And boy, does she look good. No sign of the little sister vibes at all.
The song on first listen, is pleasant.
It didn't blow my mind or some such superlative.
But will need to hear it without the MV .. It might grow on me
-
It might be that the favour is in the future.
There is the Woogie connection.
But I like her strategy in these things, trading favours, as collaborations with others, gives more for the listening audience.
And good to see the camaraderie between artists, rather than just only business.

I directly listened to the version without MV since the beginning of the MV really bored me, maybe that's why I had a different opinion

A bit repetetiv overall think, i like IUs part (no surprise there), but could probably grow on me.
I havent thought about it before, but IU really seems to like working with rap/hiphop artists, from what i can remember:
Marshmallow (zico)
Red Queen (zion t)
Palette (gdragon)
Eight (suga)
Troll (Dean)
Love story (epik high)
Soulmate (zico)
Gandara (jay park)
But not that strange perhaps, after all she's koreas #1 hip hop artist.

Well her other collaborators aren't that famous - Sunwoo Jung-a or Sweet Sorrow, and then the fact that K-pop is highly dominated by hip-hop in the past decade, than other genres.

My guess is it comes down to that almost all rap/hiphop artists are directly involved in the creative process, be it lyrics, composing or producing, and that being the common denominator for most of her collaborations overall just not the rap guys.
That and people actually daring to ask her to collab to begin with. She has done so many collaborations over they years, with famous and not so famous artists, that my impression is that she rarely says no if someone comes to her and her schedule permits it.

Oh that is a valid point, She collaborates with the creative artists, not just performative artists. Fits the pattern.
And the second point is true too, remember the show with AKMU, where she said they were the only people who actually used the "IU ticket" which she gives as a promise. Many have received it, but AKMU were the one to cash it (Though I think IU was underused/unnecessary for Nakka)
I also don't think she refuses anyone if circumstances permit, but she does not promote much for collabs, where she is just a performative participant.
Though her name association is by itself a brand promotion.

not great not terrible

It's okay

Vocally, I give it a bop. Def. changes I would make on the production though.
-
It's pretty nice. Got a chill vibe and their voices sound good together.

The MV is more interesting than the song.
Song is just pleasant and easy listening, not very impactful or lingering in the memory.
I am disappointed with songs where IU is featured recently, they seem to use her for the brand than anything.
I liked Nakka as a song, but IU wasn't necessary for it.
Ganadara is not as impressive as song as Nakka, but at least she has a good portion.
When will there be an impressive song with strong feature from IU, I don't know.
Epik High and Zico did better. But that has been sometime.
Seems artists are overawed by the opportunity to collaborate and play it too safe.
