My school had chicken sandwiches which were honestly the only good thing but sometimes they would burn the chicken so it was like 70/30 chance it would be good.
Everything else was shit, the spaghetti was crusty and the hamburgers were bland af

Sometimes we had some really good stuff. Most of the time it was shit though.
bong bong bong drrr
I actually did.
I always liked canteen type foods
I can't remember, it was three decades ago.
In elementary and middle school I did. Though I mostly brought my lunch in elementary.
I had a child's palate, so of course cardboard rectangle pizza tasted just as good as anything considering the kind of cheap pizza they serve at children places like Chuckie Cheese. And cafeteria unthawed chicken nuggets were just as tasty as the Tyson's chicken nuggets I warmed in the oven at home. Probably was the same as a matter of fact.
But, when I got in highschool, I pretty much stopped eating lunch because I realized it was not good. I would sometimes drink the chocolate milk until I would sometimes get a spoiled one (despite the expiration date).
College was not any better, but I ate it anyway because I did not have the money to afford buying groceries consistently outside of my meal plan.
So yeah...school food is made to be cheap and just barely edible in most cases.
America does
My school did theirs and it was pretty good, actually. we had proper burritos, generic corporate sandwiches (<leaf>, <meat> ,<bread>), Pizza, pickup stix, panda express, and dry ass burgers. (though if you took a butter square and stuck one on either side of the patty and asked the cafeteria to rewarm it and add shredded string cheese on it quickly after, it was pretty decent! (people tried putting in the cheese before, but the cafeteria refused... for some weird reason.
America does
I heard about that but not sure if any other country does...
in elementary school yeah. it was usually pretty decent. most of the veggie sides were gross though (like the steamed frozen peas and carrots).
in high school/middle school, the only good things were the crispy chicken sandwiches. i literally can't even remember anything else.
We had a style that (went for $5 for two slices) was bell pepper, black olives, sausage, ham, onion, pepperoni, and pineapple(you can pick what you want to leave out) , and you could request bbq sauce on the side, free of charge. Apparently the culinary teacher liked it so much that he leveraged his accreditation as a proper chef to make it every lunch and pocketed the extra slices (brought home every day in a few pizza boxes, and you bet every staff meeting saw him rushing to the staff commons with a box or two.
