Painful missed opportunities in K-pop

  • that's a real shame. i love that song, but i don't listen to it anymore for some unknown reasons :pepepizza:

Definitely. It was one of my most played songs at one point, but I just can't bring myself to listen to it much anymore.

That song would have been perfect for Rosé. I don't care what anyone says. I know she's known for her somber sound and vibe as an artist, but I think most K-pop soloists have two sides to them musically. If there's anyone who's right for the '50s rock and pop sound that's prevalent in the song, it's Rosé.

Slight correction: It was originally meant for the entirety of Blackpink, not just Rosé. Still, my thoughts apply. The song would have been great for all the members, especially Rosé.

They were so close to having it as their song, too. Rosé may have already recorded her part.

Imagine it, though. We could be seeing "1, 2, 3!" as a Blackpink bop right now instead of a song that's tainted by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.

  • tbh, i have a really hard time believing that a huge award show wouldn't have had that music set up already, especially considering they had a rehearsal the day before. Like do we really believe that MAMA is run like a local high school talent show? I doubt they were like, "Great rehearsal! Here's your cd back. Remember to bring it tomorrow!" lmao. I think there's prbly some spin happening on all sides.

It's possible but then again we've seen multiple times that Korean shows can be incompetent.

Remember how SBS gayo didn't properly fix it's stage and Wendy for injured as a result? At one of the end of year shows the was a hole in the center of the stage for artists to rise up from but at the end of a performance they lowered it for some reason and Taeyeon fell in and injured herself. Jungkook was spotted injured when going to airport and it was assumed he got injured during mama when they had a fault on their floating wire system.

There's likely lot more less serious stuff but it shows that shows/events are known for having shit going wrong and miscommunication honestly doesn't sound that far fetched. That doesn't excuse wiz behaviour though

  • :pepewhat: wow that is hella surprising, such a departure from their usual sound. damn you yg! that would have been so fun to see.

yeah, I'm reading more about this and it actually does sound like Mnet doesn't run things much better than a high school lol. urgh, so much miscommunication too. Man, what a cluster.

I fully believe that MAMA and most major Korean shows are run like high school talent shows. There are tons of issues almost every year with how something is handled.

  • IOI debut song, it wasn't horrible but it could have been much better and secured them more opportunities if the CEO didn't pick the song made by his son. Nepotism at its finest

I.O.I 's short tenure itself was one big missed opportunity. Yes, companies would not have anticipated the success of Produce season 1, but once they knew the ratings, they could have easily pivoted and extend the tenure of the group.

Instead everybody went with their own plans and wasted all the groups.

IOI could have easily taken on Twice, BP and ruled the 3rd gen.
