Do you watch 10-minute (sometimes longer) reaction videos to decide whether or not a music video is worthy of your view, to decide whether or not you like the song?
Asking because I'm a bit perplexed. I thought watching reaction videos was always meant as a fun way for preexisting stans to see what others have to say about the song and MV. Maybe the reactor has interesting observations that you may have missed.
I never would have thought they carried the same weight as a review for a box-office film you pay to see in theaters, a car you plan on buying, or even a restaurant you want to eat at. By the time the reaction video is over, you could have already seen the MV itself two or three times and decided for yourself what you think of it.
All this to say I don't think it's a big deal that companies ask YouTubers to react to their MVs. It's just promotion, a win-win for both the YouTuber and the company. I don't see any ethical issue with this because it's not as if your quality of life is affected if the reactor somehow persuades you to like something you wouldn't have otherwise checked out or liked. I can see it being an ethical issue if a reviewer of a car or a film intentionally leaves out the cons of making the purchase, but I don't see this being a big deal for music that's free to check out. Even on the AKP forum, we promote our favorites every day. The only reason anyone would have a problem with this would be pettiness and overemphasis on charts and competition.
