Why does Sm give Aespa so little outside/variety content?

Yes. idk about Red Velvet, but yes definitely for NCT. They launched the NCT Daily YouTube channel in late 2018 which was the main place for them to do variety content until the channel restructure (now they use the group branded accounts.) In the beginning it was things like Johnny's Communication Center, ChenJi's This or That, and behind the scenes and vlog videos but it slowly grew into mini series content like Hit the States and the Relay Cams. In 2020, they really started using variety content to promote the comebacks too and now several members have their own little YouTube shows (JCC and This or That are still mainstays, but there's also Enjoy the Challenge, Finding a Person with Kim Jungwoo, Kun's Cloud, Master Chef Moon, etc).
