It’s not that Seventeen is not popular, but it probably feels like that especially since they are not popular on Western forums and Carats aren’t the ones to go around rubbing Seventeen’s achievements constantly in other people’s face due what caratnotcarrot has mentioned— the demographic consists of fans in their early 20s, working, studying, and so on.
Though there is a huge discrepancy between #1 and #2, but currently, Seventeen is behind them. They have a sizeable fandom considering how they are able to chart high on Korean charts and have an amazing selling power (especially in Asia), and their touring ability is also very praised. They also have recognizable members, for example Seungkwan, who literally just won a daesang at Korea’s First Brand Awards for the best Male Entertainer. They have won government awards for two years in a row, not to mention that GoSe was even featured as part of international Korean embassies to promote tourism. Even their variety show, Going Seventeen has a separate fanbase, the GP calls themselves “cubic,” and it even accumulated over 300M views over a span 2.5 years. People in the West don’t talk about it enough to realize how popular and big Seventeen really is.
