I agree appeal can also be appealing to the fandom not just GP. People think a fandom will love everything you put out but then all songs will perform the same but that’s usually not the case.

if i hate a song by my faves but it becomes a hit that has mass apeal i would just not listen to that song and be really happy for them and anticipate the new songs that will come given that new resources became available to my faves and they could hopefully explore new things and continue to be themselves and make other songs that i would eventually like.

i am sort of selfish with this lol, so i will always prefer songs that i love regardless of the public's reception and success.
But, i also want my faves to be successful and happy, so as long as i don't absolutely hate the song and as long as the b-sides are to my liking i'd be happy for them to find success with a song that i don't particularly love.

Mass appealing music for a title track to lure new fans in and B-side bangers to keep the fans, old and new, happy, bopping and asking for more.

Music that makes them happy in creating. I think the first people they need to please are themselves. Because in the end of the day, I'm just one in a million, each people in the mass are also one in a million, we can come and go. But their music is immortalized in their history, so It has to make them satisfied.
Luckily, me and my faves have been walking together in taste.
