Are bands being held at a higher standard than typical KPOP idol groups?

  • When an idol participates in the songwriting process, and write like 1 sentence in the whole song people be like "OMG SONGWWRITER XXXXX SUCH DEEP LYRICS SO TALENTED" but when a band does it it's "they are a band obviously they write their own songs"

You see people saying stuff like "they are a band of course they play their own instruments", but you don't see stupid shit like "they are an idol of course they sing and dance" like imagine how stupid that sounds right?

Bands probably on average contribute more to their music production from playing their own instruments and recording the sounds in the studio but people take all these for granted. I mean it's not like most idols choreograph their own dance anyways right like 99% doesn't.

Do you think people hold bands at a higher standard than your typical idol group? When an idol group does it, it's revolutionary but when a band does it, it's taken for granted

  • no because bands are expected to write their own music... it's kinda what comes with being in a band. when you are a pop artist in our society you are expected to be a performer and not an artist.

  • Yes, especially for people who listen to bands outside of K-Pop. There are different expectations from involvement in the creative process to overall musicality.

"Lack-singing" or rapping is more "acceptable" if you are attractive. Imagine not being able to hold a "pocket" as a drummer, but you just look really good banging around on a set. :watt:

  • It is weird when you think about it. Idols are considered performers and entertainers since they spend all their time learning to sing and dance. But wouldn't band members also be considered performers and entertainers since they sing and play instruments. Why the extra expectation of writing music for bands?

The irony is that bands in general are just creatively superior to almost all pop acts or groups. Some of the mustiest looking dudes you would ever find who looked like they hadnt showered in a week were talented enough to write some of the greatest hits and even classics of modern pop, rock, and metal music.
