I realized a lot of old kpop stans (who have been stanning since gen 2 at least) have this reverence to those old timey groups. Like I could care less. I'm excited for the 5th to start next year. I like some old kpop songs but I'm never thinking "I miss those days". Even for 3rd gen where Red Velvet debuted I'm not longing for that era ALTHOUGH it would be nice to re-experience
Am I the only old kpop fan that doesn't give a damn about the old gens?

Old MVs have outdated retro vibes, 144p quality vids, less diverse makeups, boring props and bad edits
Never mind BP, rookies from non Big3 companies like Purple Kiss even have more stunning debut MVs than majority of old gen MVs. The gateway to kpop for everyone is always about the MVs so obviously those take my attention the most.

I'm just not impressed with something just because it's new and shiny.
SM box videos from 2nd gen carry way more charm and atmosphere then all this new CGI bullshit.
As far as music goes 2nd gen actually sounds like music. It had a structure or foundation. New stuff is all over the place and makes no damn sense.

These MVs were like movies and amazing despite the lack of color/flashiness, the creativity and the stories behind a lot of 2nd gen MVs are part of the appeal. I think we shouldn't limit the value of MVs to pretty visuals and flashy colors

5 years from now, people are going to say the same thing about 3rd gen. What we think that look cool today will look cringe in a couple years. Then the "outdated retro vibe" from 2nd gen will look cool. People always like to skip a generation, like how the 90s aesthetic are coming back when just 7-8 years ago, it was seen as tacky af.
People taste change. Kpop mv in 2nd gen was also seen as well produced by neighboring countries where Hallyu was growing its influence at the time.

Find me a more powerful song and video than this 2006 masterpiece.
