  • Wow, the way people were talking, I thought it was worse.

    She rocked that white though.

I think they were more critical because she'd allegedly the "main dancer" of the group or considered to be like one. And that Aespa has been so well on the charts, they could have put more deserving effort in their performance.

  • I am one of the people who were vocal about being disappointed in aespa’s lackluster performance because it was redundant and lacked effort. But the Karina solo wasn’t impressive but wasn’t bad IMO. I am not a pro so I don’t know if it was technically good or not (have seen some pro dancers defend it and others don’t so idkwt).

However, I always disliked this flailing arms choreography which was overly done by many Kpop dancers who are known to be good dancers. It just always looked boring to me sorry. Some would bring technical stuff to excuse others but eventually even when pros say some artists have done it right, it still looks lacking to the untrained eye which is most fans. Unless it’s coupled with a fitting beat and fast movements to get in the mood. A good example of beat and fast movements getting the wows is the Rozalin vs Lip J battle. Most of the audience was impressed by Rozalin’s Waaking because of her choice of music and speed that was interesting to look at. While LipJ who was technically better was always not understood by many fans in other SWF battles before the Rozalin fight (Waaking is also another form of dance that is not usually understood by amateurs. Though not as much as whatever type of dance Karina's choreographer always gave her which is just again boring) until they were told by professionals that she was great. Ps Lip J was still impressive to me though.

Know your audience. You want to be artistic and technical do it on your personal platform but performing to Kpop fans and you want to impress them, you need something flashy for the untrained eye. Imo for Kpop fans doing tricks and stunts would have changed the perception completely even if the dancer wasn’t that great lol. Knowing Karina’s athletic background she can do a lot of those but she was never given the choreography that would exploit it.

Probably the same reason people thought Ryujin's AOTM was boring. Since it was also very technical and didn't have a lot of over the top movements.

  • its just a bit lackluster( the choreo). I don't find it bad but I'm also not gagging.....just lukewarm.

we're not always gonna get gag-worthy performances so I wasn't too upset, i thought Karina looked pretty and she did her best.

most people are disappointed more with the main performance and the lack of effort in the stage/rearranging/givng us something new/etc.

I mean it is MAMA not just some random performance.
