I dont know everything about them. Perhaps they dominate in other aspects

Boa and TVXQ was strong for sure at their peak.
To put into context, people didn't know Boa was korean in Japan and were surprise when people were saying them.
For TVXQ, they were the rival of Arashi (best bg ever in Japan) and it said all. (Without forget they were Arashi rival when they were at their peak and on every shows)

Guess we all should be staning Berry Flop then.

She's like a jpop artist. Not many locals knew she was korean at that time.

Idk about numbers but when I was young I listen to some jpop and I remember BoA was really popular, at first I thought she was actually Japanese. I remember I heard her name along with Ayumi Hamasaki and Utada

Top 5 Korean Acts in Japan determined by Longevity
1. TVXQ
2. BoA
3. TWICE = BTS
4. KARA
5. Girls' Generation
It is that simple. But all of the solo female artist all took the heaviest of hits mid to late 00's.
They were almost completely wiped off the map by the early 10's. BoA was one of dozens to suffer the decline.
It was also some of SM's fault but even if they did everything right BoA would probably only be selling 3x what she is now.
Which...isn't much at all either. Sucks, but the Japan industry moved onto boring folk pop music.
It is what it is. To be honest though, it doesn't really matter.
