It's not that rare, for example there is an 8-year gap between Irene and Yeri in Red Velvet.

I think it's good when there is a significant age gap between the members when the maknae is really very young, the older ones can take on the responsibilities more easily. I think it is much more difficult for leaders who are young in very young groups, they are too quickly confronted with too important responsibilities.
