Back in July 2016, MLD Entertainment debuted its then-new girl group 'Momoland' through its audition survival program 'Finding Momoland'. Daisy was eliminated during the show, however, she later joined the group in April of 2017 after signing with the label in September 2016.

MLD Entertainment then deducted about 66 million KRW, which was the total production cost of the show evenly split among 10 contestants, from Daisy's earnings claiming that she should be responsible for the production cost of the survival show as well. Daisy later sued her former label claiming it is unfair to withhold part of her earnings for the cost that was incurred before she signed the contract with the label.

Court sided with the plaintiff, Daisy. "Contract is effective since the signed date unless otherwise specified. The phrase 'pre-debut' on the contract refers to the phase from which the plaintiff signed the contract to the actual debut date. Further, there is no evidence beyond reasonable doubt to assume that this is customary practice in the entertainment industry."

Court also ordered MLD Entertainment to pay about 13 million KRW which was unpaid to Daisy.

This trash of a company made their trainees/newly debuted idols pay for the production of the reality show they put on to cast said trainees into a girl group. Absolute garbage.

According to MLD Entertainment on October 11th, however, the label has already filed an appeal in the said case. An insider from MLD Entertainment foreshadowed another legal battle, "As far as I know, we've already filed an appeal to the court. The appeal is in process."

  • They can burn down for all I care. Hopefully Daisy gets her money

They already filed an appeal but I'm hoping they'll just lose it and be forced to pay her even more (but I'm not confident that they won't pay her out of their artists' pockets).

  • 66k?

is that a lot in korea?

that's a middle class year's salary in america-

is this all of her money from the last 4-5 years? that would be pathetic ngl wth

If you read the parts I quoted in the OP, you'll understand. 13 million won were unpaid wages and the rest was the cost of the production of the reality show Finding Momoland, which MLD charged the trainees for (imagine appearing in a reality show and then paying for it being made while you were told you would be a paid cast member instead). As to how high an idol's salary is - we know that your regular idol doesn't make a lot. It's not that weird.

imagine daisy even got eliminated in the finding momoland show. she was added to the group later. so she got a different contract not even related to the show. but then they had success with boom boom so the company "found" some additional bills for the idols to pay...

  • She never got any money from them? That's terrible. This company will flop, no one is going to be so stupid to even try for this trash company. They're only setting themselves up at this point.

You'd be surprised. I'm sure some would be naive enough to hope they'll have it better and others who would settle for anything to have a chance to debut and realise their dreams.

A lot of idols we know from smaller agencies make basically nothing.

  • True there will be some people who'll still try for mld, but maybe some talented girls will change their minds and try to find a better company instead. I just feel bad for Shana. I hope she makes it in gp 999.

66k is a lot in Korea IMO. Cost of living isnt nearly as high there as it is here, at least where i live.

Plus I'm pretty sure the labels pay for all your expenses like food, housing, utilities, etc when you live in their dorms. This money is just pure profit for her.

I feel sorry for their artists and trainees
