Is it because IU continued to thrive when KPop became much bigger so even a domesticist like her could benefit ? Or is it because SM took a large portion of SNSD's income while IU, whose training cost was negligible since they didn't have to teach her dancing, was collecting more of her earnings herself? It is hard to tell.
Anyways it appears no member of SNSD is richer than IU, probably the richest female KPop figure of all. Which would have been unimaginable when the popularity of SNSD and IU had a gap as large as the gap between the sun and the moon. (The reference comes from Sunny (Susan Lee) and Jang Manwol (which means Full Moon).
Huge and successful soloists obviously earn more than huge and successful groups.
Another thing, SM idols tend to not show how much money they have. Imagine TVXQ who at one time had the best tour numbers in Japan with over a million tickets sold, how rich do you think they are? Yet there's nothing you can find about their wealth.
If it helps, I saw somewhere that Yuri has a 10 or 11 million dollar building, meanwhile Yoona has real estate worth over 16 million dollars.
I don't think they are broke at all compared to IU. Don't be surprised if some Snsd members are richer than her.
