Actually, I don't understanf why people having problems with idols being judges.
It's not real competition, dance olympic games or something like that. That's a show.
But if they want to complain, let it be.
my problem with it is that the dancers are all the best in their fields, the leaders mostly known worldwide (lipj and yell included) and could be the coaches of taeyeong/boa if they needed a teacher for a particular dance skill
it feels weird to have them judge.
and another problem for me is that they dont seem to be judging that well. in the first episode there were at least two battles that most people agree shouldnt have been called a rematch for
well most of the kpop fans I have seen watching it are watching coz of Taeyong or Chaeyeon. Also, this is not some produce show where the livelihood of the contestants depends on their rank on the show. Taeyong said in the press release(smth like that) that the purpose is to expose these dancers to the public. Most of these shows depend on ratings and drama generates ratings. I suppose this show is somehow related to SM coz all the three judges are from SM. Even with all these supposedly bad decisions (kpop fans think Mnet made in forming this show) the show is still pulling weight.

It's not just people on Reddit complaining, it's 90% of South Korean viewers, Korean professional dancers etc.
The problem isn't the idol judges. It's the complete lack of knowledge demonstrated by them when judging. They give wins based on 'feeling' and 'personal emotions' and don't even try to judge based on technique. A lot of deserving dancers got robbed because the judges have no idea what they're talking about.
Matter of preference, I assume.

It is still competition in the eyes of the contestant. Maybe people are mad because the idols lack the knowledge to judge street dance/freestyle battle. Many idols are good dancers, but the majority of them are being taught solely on dancing technique rather than the theory or depth of it. That is why some are dissatisfied before the show even starts when MNET announced the 3 judges.
Could you link these articles where "90% of South Korean viewers, Korean professional dancers" are complaining about this?
It regularly trends on Pann and TheQoo but isn't really translated. The big K-dance Youtubers like Ruda's Dance Lab, who initially supported BoA and Taeyong, retracted his support after seeing what a bad job they did in Episode 2.
