hmm. well, with many hit songs, you can get views and with those views it will show up on others reccommended, you can build up a solid fanbase which will give you album sales. you have the possibility to get those sweet sweet music show wins and award show wins.

but with album sales, you have a fandom, and you have views from your fandom, but there is no guarantee you can get hit songs so you can only get 3/4.

Still, Idt many hits songs will guarantee you an album sales, the same way big album sales won't guarantee you a hit song. Another example, Wonder Girls and Miss A, abysmal album sales in general eventhough they have multiple national hits. For Boygroup, BTOB, Block B, 2AM, were among the best performing Boygroup digitally, but their physical sales were tragic as well.

Aside from the bang-pink-twice trio who have both, Who would make more money? NCT or red velvet? Omg or Seventeen? Txt or aespa? Skz or itzy?

Seems like album sales is the better choice.

And hence Sistar was never considered as the top GG during their prime despite their streaks of #1 hits. You need both to be the top, and that's why SNSD was regarded as #1 despite less consistent digital performance. Not to mention, if i recall correctly, Sistar concert tickets werent sold out even for small venue.

It’s a fact that gp don’t support an artiste beyond just listening to their title tracks or promoted singles and moving onto another act. If you want money, fandom is way better.
