It’s 2021, at some point some of y’all are gonna have to accept….

  • That Kpop is more than just talent, and people will stan for stuff beyond that

You can stan for whoever you want & feel pride in that. If whoever is the mainest of the main vocals is who you stan, that’s great. However you don’t get to holier thy thou your preferences compared to someone who stans a visual stan attractor because of it

I personally stan for whoever catches my interest most. Be it talent, visual, personality, charm, etc

There is no one way legitimate reason to stan idols. All that matters is that they interest you in whatever they got to offer

But yeah some of the “stan talent” people be getting on my nerves sometime. I don’t care how much you haught around about your main vocal fav at age 20, you still followed Kpop for the beautiful oppas & unnies at age 14 lmfao, we ain’t forget

  • Speak for yourself lol

  • Eh. I'm almost 40 and didn't like kpop until 4 years ago so I don't care if somebody is attractive if they don't have average to above average talent to go with it. I'm always here for the music first, personality second, and visuals are kinda far down the list. My first group was KISS in the 90s when the original 4 got back together. They all look like feet. I love them anyway.

  • I get your point. I think it's obvious enough at this point that, whether a group succeeds or fails has a teeny bit to do with whether they have good music and solid talent, but is mostly due to other factors (many beyond the control of the idols themselves). There are idols who debut with established fandoms before we've heard even a single note of their songs. EXID's Up&Down was a good song before the viral fancam. And for all the people who are saying "finally Brave Girls is releasing good music, that's why they finally succeeded!" quite frankly missed BG when they were at their best combination (the four members today are solid, but BG was better with Hyeran, fight me).

    let's be friends

  • I agree regarding this.

There's no correct way to Stan.

That's the beauty of kpop. There's so many things to get into and find that motivates you to care and Stan.

I stan individual idols almost entirely because I like their personality, charm, and visuals.

Their skills are nice additions but not the main motivator for me.

Groups I have to like the music in addition to the above.

  • I’m glad that some of y’all get the message in this thread, tho way to many got dust bunnies kicking around up in there noggins

The point is don’t act holier thy though cuz you have certain stan preferences towards others. Don’t shade people for liking idols for non-talent reasons, like visuals or charm. Overall don’t shade others for having certain standards for stanning idols that differs from yours

I don’t understand how that was hard to catch when I straight up validated any reason to stan an idol

Edited once, last by Lubby00 ().

  • an interesting question is can someone actually stan a group solely because of the talent and nothing else?

ie. that you like a group's music but don't like or don't care enough for the members themselves... could you still call yourself a stan to begin with?

  • Still commented, so nope the thread won haha

The yikes that comes out of THIS was your takeaway from the thread. The forced messiness is real

Not only did you state something obvious, people Stan for reasons other than talent, but then you said this "I don’t care how much you haught around about your main vocal fav at age 20, you still followed Kpop for the beautiful oppas & unnies at age 14 lmfao, we ain’t forget".

Dude, you're gonna slam on people for staning for talent but then immediately discredit talent boil everything down to looks. That's the bigger yikes.

Sis….. that part was a joke. And even then, that is not discrediting talent, that is getting on those who go holier thy thou with the I stan for talent stuff while shading those who don’t (solely) stan for that, as if they never had a cute oppa/unnie phase b4
