Theory of Evolution vs Conspiracy Theory

  • When you believe in one, you're considered smart. When you believe in the other one, you're considered stupid. Why? Even though both are theory

Edit: I just realized this thread is very weird. I'm comparing theories, one is "science", one is not science but not an anti science. Conspiracy is not an anti science, it is unrelated to science and doesn't need to oppose science. Just like religion - science relationship. Thank you for coming guys

  • bc what people commonly believe in is what they consider "right"

we make fun of ppl who lived hundreds of years ago like "haha flat earthers" but ppl in the future are gna think of us and be like "haha spacetimers" :pepe-cringe:

some theories are less believable with the knowledge we have now which is probably why most conspiracy theories are looked down on, and other conspiracy theories just cause fear and are better off not even considering. doesn't always mean they're wrong though lmao

it's all just theories after all :pepe-toilet:

Well said. And has golden lines in it

  • Scientists don't use the term "theory" the same way the lay people do lol. Theory in science is a explanation/statement that is backed by evidence across multiple disciplines (i.e. Newton's theory of relativity, endosymbiotic theory). Theory as you say it just means any old BS anyone wants to believe. Equating the two is harmful to say the least.

If you read/watch some conspiracy theory you'll find that it provide facts you can't get from mainstream information

For explanation, well, people can explain whatever

    what is a spacetimer?

    Newton's theory of gravity, innit.

    Which was wrong, innit.

    Which, I mean, okay, so,

Dude puts out this Law of Gravitation or whatever the fuck right.

    It's a theory.

    But people can test it.

They can test it in small ways and in big ways, and they can use their own senses to verify these tests.

Which is to say, they can use their own eyes to track the movement of celestial bodies or the fall of objects.

This is very different from conspiracy theories, first of all.

Second of all, Newtonian gravity was the mathematical model of gravity for at least until Einstein's general and special relativity. It was used in a practical manner for physics calculations. And IT STILL IS for the most part, because it is a simpler model and because it's accurate enough.

    In comparison,

Trying to even navigate on the assumption that the earth is flat is going to fuck you up.

(which, also, btw, it's totally incorrect to say that people broadly believed that in the recent past. We knew the earth was spherical since Ancient Greece. They even calculated the size of the fucking planet. Why do people think Columbus was looking for India by sailing west ffs. Whoever is laughing at "people in the past" for being flat earthers is lolling at people pre-antiquity, which, like, there's plenty more stuff to lol at back then)

But even then: The theory was still wrong.

  • You're right user, science is about explaining events/discovery (kinda like religion :pepe-hehe: ), while conspiracy is partly denying explanation without explaining by themself and providing facts that is not common

But again, it is about evolution vs conspiracy
