Well they’d have to be to carry on like that. A true fan doesn’t hate on other groups or fandoms and respects other’s opinions.

Toxic fans are fans, yes.
They support by whatever means they can. Buying albums, buying merch, going to concerts or streaming.
But the problem is the baggage that they bring with them. Every time they attack somebody else or make a toxic comment, it reflects on the whole fandom. And on their group as well.
As an Once I have seen this a LOT, even Thrice who hate Once hate those toxic Onces.
Let's just be normal humans :) If you love something, say it, if you hate something just shut up.
If you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.

Because fans think of their fandoms like a cult or a religion, there's always a tendency to defend their fandom and clean its slate. So they're not willing to accept and claim toxic people who ruin the fandoms image.
If only those people understood that ultimately the only thing they have in common is liking the same artist, and that that's not an enough reason to feel they represent you or that you represent them.
