    Letter

    Hello. This is Mamamoo Wheein.

    Our moomoos, as well as many people who have cheered for me.

    All of you must've know it through official reports.


    Since trainee days till now for 10 years, we have laughed together and have slowly came to where we are now, I am leaving RBW who is just like my hometown and I'm ready to move to a new environment.


    Because this is the first time in my life I'm experiencing this, it felt foreign, difficult and I'm swarmed by many different feelings.


    I was able to receive that much love thanks to our RBW family who have been with me and working hard for a long time. I would like to thank them sincerely


    Moomoos who have been with me during the brightest 7 years of youth in my life, thank you so much.

    In order to have more happier days in the future with Moomoos and the members, I will do my best and work hard during my activities.

    I will be repaying all of you with good music!


    All 4 members of Mamamoo will always be beside everyone.

    I will remember all those cheers, worries and encouragement words deep in my heart and will live my life cooly and bravely in the future.


    Please look forward to Wheein and Mamamoo who will be soaring higher!

    I really have big doubts about pursuing a solo career for Wheein. A solo career also goes through a promotion, that is to say everything she hates, she already had trouble in a group so solo it will be even worse for her. I hope at least that she will work on OST for movies & series, that should be fine for her.

    Maybe not a pop solo artist but I think she'd do well in krnb, considering the artists she's worked with (Sik-k, pH-1, DinDin, etc.) and her style. She's clearly still invested in music since she promised to come out with more ^^

    I hope she can make solo music she is proud of. If she can be in a place where she is happy and content, that could help make it happen a lot easier.

    I don't think she cares about being successful anymore. For me, is pretty clear that she's tired of being a public figure (her solo performances also felt super forced, at least for me). She already made money, so she's probably going to pursue a more "indie" career.

    Seems pretty obvious code for her moving to another company. I wonder who it will be. I would place my bets on AOMG or H1GHER because she has collaborated with several artists from that roster (Sik-K, pH-1, GSoul). Any announcement will probably come only after Mamamoo's WAW promotions end.


    Why is this "Wheein is done with idol life" or even "Wheein is done with the spotlight" narrative so persistent and entrenched no matter what Wheein says recently?


    Sure, Wheein has had her struggles but she looked happy, confident and in her element during Water Color promotions this year. She even said in an interview for Redd that she was at a good place both mentally and physically and expressed her wish to make music for a long time. In the recent WAW interview she reiterated that she was at her best physically and mentally during Redd promotions and wants to stay that way. She even said that the key word she likes seeing associated with her name is 'all-rounder' and while she is grateful that many people do already recognize her skills and talents, she wants for even more people to recognize her. Doesn't sound like someone who wants to leave the spotlight.

    She also show us, that she wasn't comfortable in front of the cameras. And that she was also very nervous when it came to solo promotional activities. Statements and words in the press are one thing, but deeds are also another and everything must be taken as a whole.


    I saw a lot of people on the internet accused RBW and talking about differential treatment for Wheein. But I remain convinced that the problem is much deeper and has nothing to do with the company or with the other members of the group.


    When I see her cry and run away from the camera in episode 8 of MMMTV, that's not the reaction of someone who is doing perfectly well. I may be too interpretive as a fan, but even under the influence of emotion, her reaction is still very strong.

    Personally, I don't know Wheein so instead of trying to armchair psychoanalyze her by the 1% of her life that I get to see on camera I'm just going to believe her own words and what she says she wants to do and achieve. And I'm always going to give preference to what someone says most recently or in the present because opinions, attitudes, and goals can shift as time goes by and different life experiences are added. If at some point she says she want no recognition and wants out of the spotlight, I'm going to believe her then too because minds can change. I am just a fan and I am not privy to the full scope of her life and circumstances.

    It's really naive way of reasoning, we must not forget that when a public person makes this kind of statement it is above all about communication. I can no longer count the number of idols who said things and whose actions turned out to be totally different.
