I feel like whenever you bring up the recent increase in lip sync in kpop, a bunch of people say "kpop has always been lip sync, this isn't a new thing, get used to it", and yeah, there has obviously always been lip sync in kpop (i'd say 1st gen kpop was even worse than today because lip syncing was allowed to run rampant and idols weren't as trained to sing live back then) but I seriously feel like in recent years there has been an increase in lip sync.
I was reminded to make this thread when I watched this stage compilation(RIP Gfriend) and I noticed that they sang live in all their Show Champion stages from 2015~ up until about 2018 when suddenly they no longer sang live. this isn't specific to Gfriend I'm just using this as an example, because I feel like around 2018 when kpop blew up in the West, a lot of groups stopped singing live indefinitely. Now a lot of these rookies that debuted after 2018 I don't think have ever had a live stage.
What do you guys think? Am I delulu or stating the obvious?
