why are female idols usually small in height? in average?

Height requirements were a thing back then for some groups. For sexy concepts and such. Today, not so much.

most of them are in the 165-170 mark

in fact, the ones below ~162 are called short so..

male idols can be really short though

Many of them are scouted before puberty and are put on dangerous diets and no-sleep training schedules, which may affect their growth. While they are getting taller just like the general population, it is clear that SKs are on average quite short. Being very skinny, having good proportions, and camera angles/shoes/lifts (not to mention that everybody is lying about their height to keep the illusion) can give the impression of height, but I'd say there are more female idols pushing 150 cm than 170 cm

aren't Koreans short in general? Their average height is around 5' 3 feet.

Well, the majority of girls are usually short everywhere, both in Asia and in Europe.

But I think there is a preference for shorter girls since they can fit better cute concepts?

Because asians are generally shorter..... especially the girls...... ????

females are usually shorter than men, asians are usually shorter than westerners (of course there are outliers)

however it is possible to find tall female idols, for example 9MUSES had a height requirement as part of the casting call and so all members ended up being at least 170 cm. whereas groups like LOONA, the average height is 160 cm... both from nugu agencys, it just depends on wether the company cares about height or not.

They tend to chose shorter females to look petit, but much older idols were also shorter since average height tend to increase w increased access to food for parent / child.

Korea was really poor just a generation ago, but when living standard increase height so as well.

Korean were smaller though now they look like europeans, also heigh requirements in the past which led to the heigh standart right now.
