Not to be delusional but I think 4th gen groups will surpass 2nd gen groups when it comes to sales and impact.
-
-
They can surpass them, it won't make 2nd gen groups less legendary
-
2nd gen nugu
-
Well, the era of streaming is now, not in the 2000s. It would be weird if it was the inverse.
-
okay next
-
4th gen is an export, rather then focusing purely on SK. so its widely different
-
I hope that people who say the same things as OP know that streaming culture didnt exist during 2nd generation.
-
2nd gen groups achieved some firsts and did pave the way in Asia, especially TVXQ in Japan.
4th gen doesnt really have much left where they could create impact of their own, unless they chart on Mars or something.
It will be hard for them to surpass 2nd gen's impact, there little new ground left to conquer and kpop as a whole is more or less irrelevant even in Korea, with few exceptions.
It would be better if they focused on music quality instead of "impact" or "records" (I mean release songs like Ghosting).

Streaming wise, 4th gen groups are already ahead and we still have yet to see YGNGG, SMNBG and HYBE's NGG.
If you disagree then you are delusional.
You cannot fairly compare popularity judging by streaming numbers. Streaming services in, what, 2005 were nothing compared to streaming services now. But go off, I guess.

That is because physical sales in general increased across the entire KPOP industry.
And streaming wasn't a thing back in 2nd Gen so obviously 4th Gen will outstream 2nd Gen. Also, considering most 2nd Gen groups already disbanded, of course 4th Gen will outstream 2nd Gen because 2nd Gen don't even release anymore songs.
So if you are referring to 4th Gen outstreaming and out-physical sales-ing 2nd Gen, my answer to you is
-
4th gen is an export, rather then focusing purely on SK. so its widely different
