Interesting post. That shift to messy, childlike designs, is following a general design trend right now (MHJ’s ooak branding was similar). So I’m not sure we can read too much into it.
Recently I’ve been thinking about what it would have been like if NewJeans had come back with Not Cute Anymore. I think they would have pulled it off just as well as illit did.
There will likely be loads of overlap between the two. That being said. I hope NJ never do “magic girl’’ and keep doing y2k instead, and I hope they don’t get beep-beep-boop style choruses.
The OOAK design honestly just looks like an unfinished sketch, and that woman is rushing to trademark it because she’s paranoid about people “stealing” her ideas again. Her company isn’t even fully set up yet.
And yup, even if Nj came back with Illit type songs, they’d still do well at least in Korea. But long term, it might hurt their identity. One of Nj's biggest strengths is how easy their songs are to listen to, both the vocals and the production. I’m not a music expert to explain, but I can hear the difference well. Illit’s tracks are more “compact” and “campy,” while Nj's is simpler. And people love it. This is where it getting interesting and what makes me curious, how hybe will convey Nj strong brand and identity post Mhj. Like musically, Nj is not unique at all but in hybe they obviously are. And how will they draws the line between Nj and their other ggs.

Well, going from a lolita concept to a mature girl concept will be intresting. I would guess they will be like Red Velvet or something like that, but just a wild guess.

You think you're dissing their fans when you call that a "lolita concept," but you're only dissing yourself by perceiving their concept that way.
If you're watching and listening to intricate, meticulous embodiments of art such as these and still reduce them to "lolita concept," that's more of a you issue.

I think whatever they do, they must refrain from trying recreate 250 and FRNK sound. I think doing that will be a major mistake and they need to provide a new era for NewJeans. I think they have to distance themselves from OG Ador and create a new identity for NewJeans. I just hope they consult with the members because that would provide the best results for the new direction.

Their styling in a lot of photoshoots was obiovious vibes of "lolita", not saying they always had that style, but a bit too often.
