According to an exclusive report by My Daily, 2025 MAMA Awards will proceed as scheduled on November 28th and 29th.

2025 MAMA Awards plans to tone down the event significantly and maintain a more solemn atmosphere following massive fires currently raging in Hong Kong.

โ€œWe are swiftly discussing appropriate response measures for each category. We will closely review the situation and promptly share any updates regarding official response and event management procedures, as well as artist performances and award scripts, as they become available. We once again apologize for causing concern to all artists and stakeholders. The management will carefully review the situation and determine the best course of action. โ€” MAMA Awards Officeโ€

  • I will just post what I said in another thread here

Maybe it's just me but i'm very unsure if they should continue due to the circumstance. It's a difficult situation, but it just doesn't feel right to me imo. It may be a financial loss, but to me it seems classless to just go on with it, but maybe it's different cultures

  • not meov with their song called burning up!

Hopefully they change songs last minute! Itโ€™s awful timing!

Iโ€™m sorry but itโ€™s in bad taste if they continue. People have died and a lot of people are missing!

People can go a year without Mama awards show. They can announce winners online and send the artist home.

Itโ€™s really insensitive! Money isnโ€™t everything

Agreed, more that I think about it and it feels insensitive to what's going on. This really feels like the Korean entertainment industry is having a disconnect from regular people. It's not a good look to have the W event scandal last month, and now this. It shows they're in their own world and not caring about what's around them.

Also agree that money isn't everything and they should postpone and do it in Korea if anything. It also doesn't sit right when it's being done in a country outside of Korea because they've postponed or cancelled events due to tragedies in Korea. I feel the people of Hong Kong deserve that too because it just feels they're disregarding their feelings by saying the show must go on.

Forgot to mention, but I hope people don't send any hate to idols because I doubt they have a say if they can walk out of it imo.

  • you might wanna update the title OP

Fate of 2025 MAMAs unclear, CJ ENM-Hong Kong government meeting delayed

An emergency meeting between event host CJ ENM and the Hong Kong government to discuss whether to proceed with the 2025 Mnet Aasian Music Awards on Friday has been delayed, as the city reels from a deadly high-rise fire that has killed at least 55 people and left hundreds missing.

The fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon at the Wang Fuk Court residential complex in the Tai Po district, about 20 kilometers from Kai Tak Sports Park, where the MAMAs will be held Friday and Saturday.

โ€œCJ ENM and the Hong Kong government have yet to hold a meeting to determine whether the annual awards will go ahead,โ€ an industry source told The Korea Herald on Thursday afternoon. โ€œFrom what I know, the Hong Kong government is too busy to deal with this matter. They were scheduled to meet (CJ ENM) in the afternoon, but it is unknown whether the meeting actually took place.โ€

CJ ENM has not released an official statement, as the fire has not yet been fully contained.

With the largest annual K-pop awards returning to Hong Kong for the first time in seven years โ€” and the event set to begin in less than 24 hours โ€” local reports suggested the ceremony may proceed in a subdued manner or even without an audience.

CJ ENM has reportedly instructed artists and managers who have already arrived in the city for the event to avoid stage effects or costumes that could evoke images of the fire, signaling the companyโ€™s intent to push forward with the event. Producers are said to be urgently rewriting scripts and reworking the ceremony to include messages of condolence for the victims. Teams with stage concepts involving fire effects are reviewing whether their performances can continue as planned, though the tight timeline allows little room for substantial changes.

Chinese-language media outlets also reported on Thursday that Hong Kong stars Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun-fat โ€” both previously confirmed as attendees โ€” are now expected to withdraw due to the tragedy.

The ripple effects extend beyond the MAMAs, with major cultural and sporting events across Hong Kong being postponed. Local outlets reported that Thursdayโ€™s scheduled Hong Kong Disneyland premiere of Disneyโ€™s โ€œZootopia 2โ€ was canceled. On the same day, international nongovernmental organization Oxfam announced it would postpone the 2025 Oxfam Trailwalker event originally slated for Nov. 28-30. The status of the Cyclothon, a major international cycling race scheduled for Sunday, is also uncertain, with organizers reportedly in discussions about postponement.

Meanwhile, local authorities on Wednesday raised the emergency alert level to Tier 5 at 6:22 p.m., the highest category, marking the first such escalation since the 2008 Mong Kok nightclub fire that left four dead and 55 injured.

  • 2025 MAMA Awards red carpet is cancelled; discussions underway for a pre-recorded broadcast

Following the tragic fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, the 2025 MAMA Awards ceremony will adopt a more solemn tone to honor the victims. The organizers have confirmed that renowned actors Michelle Yeoh Choo Kheng and Chow Yun-fat will attend the event, despite earlier speculation regarding their potential withdrawal from participation.

MAMA, one of the most anticipated events in K-pop, is set to return to Hong Kong after seven years. Following an emergency meeting held by officials, it has been confirmed that the awards ceremony will proceed as scheduled from November 28 to 29.

The organizing team has discussed modifying the awards show to focus on โ€œoffering comfort and mourning for the fire victimsโ€.

Sources initially indicate that the attendance of Yeoh and Chow, who were set to be award presenters, is uncertain. However, the organizer confirmed with Sing Tao Daily -- the sister publication of The Standard -- that Yeoh and Chow will be there in the event.

To maintain sensitivity, the ceremony will feature adjusted stage designs and performance procedures. Notably, flame effects and large-scale special effects will be canceled from the performances.

Additionally, the red carpet event scheduled for tomorrow will be canceled, and a moment of silence will be added at the opening of the show.

Although the show will be recorded as planned, it will air at a later date.

It is also reported that girl group MEOVVโ€™s performance of โ€œBurning Upโ€ may also be canceled due to concerns regarding the songโ€™s lyrics.

Reactions from Korean netizens have been mixed; while many argue that MAMA should be canceled in light of the serious fire, others suggest that the financial losses for overseas audience members in terms of flights and hotel bookings should be considered.

  • Although the show will be recorded as planned, it will air at a later date.

    the fuck is even that?

if they are already doing it and 50k people or more will be inside arena but they won't stream it? what kind of nonsense is that...

    either postpone it totally

    or

tone it down without fireworks, and any other fire effects during show, make 1 minute of silence, if there are artist who have ballads in their discography let them sing them on stage instead of 'fun' songs

  • I have no idea I'm just the messenger lol

maybe it's an error in translation???? no sure

    maybe it be broadcast live???

personally I would like to see it proceed but with the toned down effects like you mentioned

  • hm translation error, but that for example could mean pre-recorded broadcast, so maybe in this case they wouldn't allow fans to enter stadium at all? but then I would only pity artists, because they would be performing for nobody

yeah I think that's what they mean

    pre-recorded broadcast...

hmm...multiple other events that were also suppose to happen post the fire have basically all been cancelled...I think the only reason MAMA is happening at all is because I'm pretty sure artists and crew and staff have all booked tickets and flights and everything

yeah many groups were already there for 1-2 days I think

and overall I don't know how it works legally but in my opinion if HK gov would decide to cancel everything then they would need to pay MNet back all the costs?
