Oh My Girl posted new profile photo and it's concerning
-
-
I'm assuming you're concerned because Arin and YooA aren't pictured.
-
I know they're not under WM anymore, but posting a profile photo without Yooa or Arin is still really irresponsible if they're still officially members of the group. That being said, I feel like something has to give here, as those two haven't participated in a single group activity since leaving the company. The current situation of insisting they're still in the group but never actually proving it simply isn't sustainable. This only works when the entire group is inactive for long stretches, until everyone's schedules can be worked out, which they haven't been.
I've never understood why the Kpop industry is so against the idea of letting people officially leave their group(s) while still keeping the door open for a potential return in the future. It happens all the time with western bands. At least that way it wouldn't feel like the fans are being lied to. I'm sure no one wants to see them leave, but this sort of uncertainty isn't any better. Having lost their two most popular members, you can only use such uncertainty to maintain interest for so long. People are going to catch on soon, if they haven't already. And if they want to be considered an active group, they'll need to have an actual comeback soon. Then what? Are they going to do it as four?
-
I think it was obvious that it' s going to be OT4 going forward. It was nice they still recorded a farewell type of song for fans. I assume Arin and YooA are going to focus on acting careers. Arin should be fine but I worry about YooA and hope she lands some good roles. I always thought she would pursue being a musician, so I was a bit shocked she went that route.
I think OT4 is important for the remaining members because they still get booked. Hopefully they continue to get booked.

This is their last OT8 photo ... the fact that the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th (even numbers) are still in WM

The only kpop artist I can think of who did this is Sunmi and the Wonder Girls. She left the group in 2010 and rejoined in 2015.

yeah but all of you need to remember that Seunghee started her acting career as well, Binnie was also acting in the past, and Hyojung was/is in show with traveling, well basically same with Mimi when they film World Arcade outside of Korea
then there will be days when they won't even be able to gather those 4 members, that's why I think they should just try to get as 4 now, and release something as unit, you know let's name them for example using first two letters of names and going by alphabetical order: BiHyMiSe. Then you can twist it a bit and make it Oh My Girl Bye Hi Miss unit.
I don't think anyone would have a problem with them continuing as unit, but going as main Oh My Girl name as 4 but without half of original members is weird, and kind of feels like a big ass lie

I agree it would be wise to just have them as a subunit. I guess for marketing reasons it's just easier to market them as Oh My Girl rather than the subunit. I think at this point it's about continuing to perform their songs and maybe release a song or 2 a year.

I agree with others on this thread. OMG is clearly now only 4.
I am going through OMG music and Yooa withdrawals for sure. She is my stealth bias wrecker and is my favorite performer in all of 3rd gen. I understand her getting burnt out and wanting to make more money, and at 30 years old, she's definitely getting up there in terms of idol life expectancy. But i think she's made a big mistake trying to act with zero acting experience. The competition for actress roles is just as crazy and difficult as idols from what i've heard.
Just because Izone made it look easy with Minju, Yuri and Hyewon rocketing up the actress ranks and earning instant popularity, doesnt mean any ol idol can make the transition. 98 percent of them probably end up flopping completely. In recent years, only Jisoo, Hyeri, and the three Izone girls have made enough noise to earn acting nominations or star in major productions (i'm not talking about C list webdramas). Arin impressed me a bit in some scenes i saw of her latest drama with Chuu but i dunno if she has appeared in anything bigger than a webdrama.
Selfishly, i want Yooa to go back to her athletic dancer look, ditch the insane actress diets, and return to where she belongs...

She signed to a reputable agency, so she must have something lined up imo. I was just reviewing their roster and they handle some big actors. I think it's better for her to take her chance at acting because it's more lucrative than being a soloist. The current landscape for a soloist is rough, so I can see why she's going to switch lanes. There are some kpop actresses doing well outside of the ones you've mentioned. IOI had actresses in major roles, Bona from WJSN has been in many critically acclaimed projects, and there's a couple of others. I ccan see why an idol will take the gamble because it's more rewarding.
I do agree with you that selfishly I wish we still got her solo music because her music and performances are so good. However, I want her to be successful and this is probably the best route.

BlackpinkHouse StanGIDLE tetetete
YooA will debut in Project Y movie starring Han Sohee, Jeon Jongseo, and Kim Shinrok. It premieres on 8th September.
She will probably have some supporting smaller role there but still even being on a set with a group of talented actresses was for sure a good experience.

I am excited for that film and didn't know she's in it. There's hype for it because Han Sohee and Jeon Jongseo are in it. I think that's a good role to land and she seems to be in a good agency. Hopefully she performs well and gets other roles.

Going as a sub-unit doesn't do anything but try to delude dummies. Whether a 3, 5. or 7, it's still OMG. This should be normalized.
-
Why should we normalize incomplete groups being presented as the genuine article?
