Why does it seem like Black Eyed Pilseung doesn't give Stayc the bangers they deserve?

  • I'm legitimately confused. I feel like they started strong with Stayc (So Bad is their best song imo) with a successful run of debut -> ASAP -> Stereotype and then suddenly completely lost the plot.

Like, Black Eyed Pilseung are HITTT makers. They made Twice's biggest songs, Apink's biggest songs, Sistar's biggest songs like SMASH hits. Time after time after time. But then when it comes to their own group, it feels like they're just giving them the weirdest not high quality songs and it makes me sad. Stayc has so much talent, but the songs and concepts they're given do them no favors.

Even if BEP pulled some old songs out of the vault that they would've given to Twice/Apink/Sistar, I think Stayc would benefit from it. Like when Stayc reimagined Fancy and it sounded better than any of their own recent songs (which are generally being slept on nowadays).

What's going on...where are the hits...?

  • it must be because of the current economy of the 2020s

  • Nah they didn’t lose the plot after stereotype. Run2U was a solid comeback, good song and fit their image, Beautiful monster is QUALITY, it just was too much of an image change for rookie stayc.

Where I feel like they went wrong is with teddy bear… it was way to childish and cutesy for stayc… it’s a bop sure but I could tell they were struggling with how to progress their image and sound.

And then instead of taking time to pivot to a more mature concept they went made a whole 180 image wise…that literally never works out for non big 4 groups

I think the main issue for them is their image, cause the songs are genuine bops, sound wise they’ve been pretty consistent, you can tell each cb song is a STAYC song.

  • I agree Run2U was good and they've had some good ones interspersed (like GPT). And I also agree that Teddy Bear was nawttt a good move for their image (even though I liked the song). Why change them to a children's group all of a sudden? Then fake that they were going to go for a mature image and release Cheeky Icy Thang instead. :(

The image/concept changes are definitely a huge problem for them, BUUUT, I do feel like many of their songs aren't up to par. Like they're fine..........but pretty generic and unremarkable (Teddy Bear, Bubble, I Want It, Bebe) or just bad imo (Cheeky Icy Thang). Like.....the songs that BEP was giving to other groups NEVER missed. So why are they giving mid tracks to Stayc?

  • For a moment in time, they were the darlings of the Korean public, but I certainly noticed a significant drop in quality and stopped listening to them, and I think that’s the general consensus as Korea seemed to give up on them too.

  • no producer/company goes out and gives groups songs that will FAIL

everyone of them thinks that their song will be the next hit but alas the GP is a fickle creature and whether a song becomes a hit these days really is a result of luck...

as a producer you think the song you create is a banger but what if the GP doesn't think so?

also whether a song is a banger or not is subjective - I've always said there are no good or bad songs...just popular and successful ones and not...

When they were composing for other groups, their work went through the entire A&R team. This team could suggest changes or, crucially, flat-out reject the songs.

Who is editing their work for their own label? Who's going to say no to them?

I guarantee you we did not hear every song BEP wrote for those groups.

Further, they write an awful lot of songs for StayC, not just the title tracks. At that increased pace, the hit rate is gonna suffer.

Oh, today I learned! Okay, that makes a lot more sense--there's like another layer of quality assurance when they're giving it to other companies (so I guess the other companies were the ones that knew what the public would like). Maybe they need to hire some people like that for their own company, like a strategist or something.

What is this Teddy Bear slander?

Teddy Bear is a bop and a hit. Probably their 2nd biggest song

lol I like Teddy Bear! But I think the pivot that it pushed them into of cutesy, teen concepts did them no favors. Bubble and Cheeky Icy Thang both sorta flopped. Then they tried to shift with GPT (which was actually sooooo good), but nobody moved. :(

  • Yeah, I was on my way to becoming a true STAYC fan when Stereotype came out. Really liked So Bad and Run2U, but from there, it's been mostly misses for me.

    I did like Poppy too.

I think that STAYC suffered from the same thing a lot of groups suffer from. Beautiful Monster underperformed, and STAYC showed signs of losing some momentum. So, their company over-corrected.

I have seen groups go from cute concepts to mature, but never the other way around.

  • I was a huge fan when they started with So Bad, but their music missed my tastes everytime since then. I'll still check their releases because they have a huge potential.

You don't do music to reach top success each time, there is no absolute way.
Even Hybe tried to copy MHJ's formula for their other groups and it's still not there for them.

StayC should continue to try, even if they flop, it should not be a problem.
It's more important for them to enjoy what they are doing.
