Did you like Squid Game season 3?

  • spoilers obv for people who didn't finish the series yet (why did you even click on this thread)

The ending SUCKS. It's so cheap, there's no growth, it didn't even answer or give any information about the objective, mechanism and actual ringleader of the squid game organisation. Netflix SUCKS for changing a fresh concept that incorporates Korean traditional games into... a fking cash grab for American spinoff that no one GAF?

The boat scene is boring, the VIP scene is boring, they killed too many characters that are worth caring. Literally the finalists are only Gihun, MG guy, No 100 and bunch of other randos that will obviously be dead as sacrifice or pawns. There were 0 stake in the final, VERY different from the blood pumping final game from season 1. There is 0 reason to care for the final game because we know Gihun and MG guy will get all of the imaginable plot armor anyway. I keep screaming press the fucking button before doing dumb shit but they somehow had a screw loose over their head. Gihun is trying to save the lunchbox guy by trying to advocate for voting but in doing so he (and MG guy) killed literally everyone besides him, and even he committed suicide. Gihun doesn't have any plan at all. He should've waited for EVERYONE to cross before trying to save that lunchbox guy even though it's so pointless.

Both granny and the pregnant lady committed suicide which cheapens their character A LOT. They didn't even try, they gave up not even trying. Sure shit hit the fan, yeah they are handicapped, they can do nothing, but taking the easy way out literally killed their development. Hyunju sacrificed her life for both of them over NOTHING, granny killed her own son to save pregnant lady, but both of them literally die in the subsequent episodes. Gihun should try to carry Junhee, he has already declared as passed thus he can do whatever tf he wants including going back to save her, which even if he fails to do so before the time ends, as long as he didn't fell, he can still proceed to the next game basically having nothing to lose anyway. (also seriously, giving birth in the middle of a GAME and can still walk without any obstetrics complications, their only concern is the injured ankle like girl... theres dozens of maternal and fetal complications knocking at your door :clown: the baby is also fine even though its definitely preterm as hell not to mention her mother being malnourished asf even though she ate during the game its literally nowhere near enough)

Everytime those white VIPs came on screen I feel like smashing my head GODDDDDD they are SOOOOO UNIMPORTANT, boring, add 0 thing to story aside from their corny ass commentary. Junho's storyline also added literally nothing. He came to the island and found nothing? He achieved nothing, gained nothing, not even a single trace of evidence.

The polices that caught Wooseok are also very stupid. I can't believe they didn't know shit about the squid game especially after the disappearance of 456 contestants. The stupidest thing ever is that they contacted the spy on the boat and spilled every single detail, like, if someone was accusing him of collusion, you'd think they used their brain cells and be smart enough to verify the information or AT LEAST take his accusation with a grain of salt instead of, idk, spilling everything? God what an awful writing. That's so hard to watch especially since they had the perfect chance to do something. I can't even imagine why they turned so incompetent in face of a hard evidence for something that, even if they have 0 knowledge about, should at least be worth investigating. I mean, you find buried a mask and tons of cash which if not obvious should raise thousands of eyebrows already, and the first thing you gaf is the burglary? Instead of the cash that whoever-knows-where it came from?

The ending is so lackluster because it doesn't even tie any loose ends and it's been 3 season (hell I could argue that season 3 should just be named season 2 part 2, they literally only made 6 episodes). We didn't have extra information about the squid game, Gihun's sacrifice brought nothing for the future games (he saved the baby but ok doesnt really advance the plot), all employees including VIPs and the frontman escaped. The ending is so cheap. Of course they had to continue the series in America but after the incredibly corny scripting for the white VIPs, well no thank you. I mean, their mouth didn't even match the dub. Ending is basically trash and concluded nothing to the story. Not to mention boring.

  • Season 3 started off good but ended poorly. The main issue with both season 2 and 3 is poor character development. They didn't build characters for us to root for. The plot device with the baby was unnecessary and it cheapened the story. There was so many frustrating moments in the final game and it felt like the show threw away the ingredients that made season 1 special. The players not pushing the button for the final game made no sense.

I think it was clear that they didn't know where to go with the story and it was used as a marketing tool for squid game USA. I am just unsure why they excluded basic story telling like character motivation, goals, suspense, future explain backgrounds. I think there was too many unanswered questions which made S2 and S3 a waste of the viewers time

The only thing I can think about Gi Hun's sacrifice it possibly gave the front man a change of heart in seeing there's still hope for humanity. I know they portrayed that message poorly but him putting 222's baby in a proper home, and giving Gi Hun's daughter his inheritance seems like he possibly had a change of heart.

Also, I assume the point of the ending was showing there's no hope in ending the game because it's a machine at this point that's happening globally. The VIPs are awful and no clue why they got so much of screen time. I assume their purpose is to show that they run these games and it's all for their entertainment which is why they can override certain rules.

The biggest issue with the ending for me was the detective because they made the character less intelligent and he was just their to fill time. I don't understand how the loan shark was able to discover more than him in such a short time. As a detective he should've expected something is up with the captain because as a detective some alarm bells should've went off.

I don't think I will watch squid games USA because they will probably tell the same story and go for shock value.

  • I got to the end today. I thought it was okay. Definitely an improvement over season 2 (which I remember being one long gun fight), by going back to the iconic games. Overall, I’m glad it’s over and am definitely not gonna watch any US spinoff.

I thought Yim Siwan put in the best performance, he really made me hate him when he revealed his true side at the end (willing to kill his own child to win).

At the same time, there was lots I didn’t really enjoy. I’m not really sure what to make of Lee Byung-hun’s character. I don’t really understand his story. I thought the story line of his brother trying to find the island was incredibly dull.

  • It made sense for MG Guy (333) to NOT press the button until Gi-Hun was gone. If he pushed the button and started the final stage when there were three (222, 333 and 456) it gave a lot of incentive for Gi-Hun to fight like hell and make sure 333 was the "loser". If the final stage started with all three, it would be a lot harder for 333 to get the result he wanted, which was Baby Overboard. 333 figured that 456 wouldn't let him die before the game started because that would leave only 222 and Gi-Hun for the final stage of the game and that was not a situation Gi-Hun wanted.

It was probably in 456's interest to hit the button and start the final stage with all three still alive, because it made the final choice a bit easier. Although it was clear that Gi-Hun a) had no desire to actually kill 333 and b) 333 was not going to let him near the button easily and had a weapon advantage.

  • My review as someone who:

    - Didn't finish season 1 (I don't even remember when I stopped - but it was maybe halfway through? Who knows...)

    - Skipped the first two or so episodes of season 2, watched it at 1.5x speed

    - Watched season 3 at 1.5x speed

I found it engaging but overall bad. I didn't like how Gihun killed Daeho with very little insight as to Daeho's background. Like yeah we got a brief bullet point list explaining that he lied about being in the marines, but like... why? What prompted him to lie? You know?

Also, he chokes out Daeho but then refuses to kill the finalists in their sleep because that "isn't who he is"... like what? It'd be one thing if no newborn was involved and he wanted to fight fair and square (even though I'd still think that's stupid), but why risk the newborns life to be morally justified in not murdering people after... murdering someone who was clearly scared and traumatized from being in a shootout while stuck in a death game? Where is the line drawn? Did Gihun suddenly become "sane" after getting things out of his system? Killing these bloodthirsty, greedy finalists would be a lot more morally justified than killing Daeho, in my opinion. If not for Gihun's own sake, then the newborns. Okay, I guess Minsu wouldn't have really deserved to die like the other finalists. And Gihun didn't really know 333's true colors... so him being caught up over those two would make sense. But player 100 and his lackeys??? Really? You really wanted to give them a chance to kill a newborn after making it VERY clear that they intended to do just that?

Player 100, that old man, got more screen time than any of the characters people actually cared about. The characters we did like got rapid deaths with little exposition and everything moved on so quickly. I guess that's my main issue with season 2 and 3, everything felt so rushed.

The detective scenes were a waste of time. All of that for the detective to not even have one conversation with the frontman? Hello?

  • Now that I’ve finally had time to process Squid Game 3... wow.

Pretty much every character I was rooting for ended up dead. Not your typical story at all, but honestly, that’s what makes it so different, and kind of exciting? Like, it hurts, but I respect that the show doesn’t play it safe and actually lets things go badly for the “favorites.”

That said… the baby thing?? As a woman, I was SO angry (not really). Why did they even have to involve a baby?! And most of all at the end why did the cop get her, what is the importance of that? It felt so unresolved. I get that they were trying to show the baby would have a better life, but it still left me like “huh??”

Also, the bad guy deciding to give money to 456’s daughter, I think it was supposed to be noble? Like maybe he felt guilty? I kinda get it, but it was also weirdly vague.

And don’t even get me started on the ending. It was clear, but at the same time I was just sitting there going: what the hell?! The baby, the cop, the brother still alive, they blew up the island, and now it’s somehow starting again in the U.S.? How?? Who even knew about this?? 😂

If the next part really is being made in America, I’m cautiously excited, but please, no more cringe English acting. 🙃

  • I agree with your takes. They wrapped up all the loose ends, but I don’t think any of them were really that satisfying lol.

  • I liked it, but at the same time I feelt it have done it's thing now and it's hard to do much more with it. The ending was a bit of a disappointment and if will a bit sad they probably will ruin it a bit with a US spin off. But hey, I guess we will watch it anyway.... maybe, or maybe not.

Finished it yesterday, i loved it. It couldn't have ended any differently. Did anyone really think that few individuals would take down the game that is financed by rich and influential people? Who is behind the game is irrelevant, what matters is that it exists and why and who is made for: it's made to entertain said rich and influential people.

Mom killing her son to save the baby was heartbreaking. Even more heartbreaking was when she committed suicide because she couldn't live with herself. The baby's father was disgusting, i couldn't believe what i was watching. I honestly thought he would care about the baby. God, what a garbage person.

Gihun's ending was fitting. We know he couldn't go back living a normal life. He at least saved the innocent baby.

The most disgusting thing (and that says a lot) was including the baby in the game for fun and making her a contestant. And how everyone was more than fine killing her. We know crowd that left are garbage humans but i didn't know they would be on that level.

Game continuing also makes sense. It doesn't matter where it's taking place, the rich only care that it's played. They'll come whenever it's held.

So all in all, i liked it. The biggest issue with s2 and s3 are characters, they are undeveloped, we didn't even know the. The best character was the trans girl, we know who she is and i was so said when she died.

Eta: acting in English was again awful, both actors and dialogue. Are there no better white actors in korea lol
