Starting to get really tired of 4-6 member girl groups

We have H2H, BM and Izna 5th gen is off to a great start

Total opposite for me. I honestly lose interest the moment a group has too many members — like, what’s the point of debuting 7 or 8 people if half of them are getting 5 seconds of screen time? Just debut a basketball team while you’re at it.

Five members is the perfect combo. Everyone gets a moment.

Honestly, I prefer this for the girls’ own sake. When a group has too many members, the popularity gap becomes really obvious. The general public will just focus on the most popular ones and won’t bother to learn about the rest because there are too many members to keep up with.

Smaller groups tend to have a more balanced distribution of popularity and recognise by public, even if some still stand out more. It’s also easier for the company to promote each member individually because of this. In big groups, brands usually go for the popular ones because of general public recognition and the strong individual fanbase that helps ensure the success of the campaign, while the other members get fewer chances. That gap only grows over time.

So yeah, I really like the current trend of smaller groups. It gives each idol a better shot at standing out and building their own career individually.

There's no point to debut a group with more than 6 members. Just look at their songs and how many lines each member gets. What's the point having 7+ or 10, 20 members when 90% of the group are just fillers, basically.

The reason new groups and Idols are not interesting isn't about the size of the groups. They're children, and influencers on social media, and let's be honest, that's BORING as hell. Kids these days don't have any personalities, because they either forced or want to follow the latest trends, and don't know how to show their real personalities. Idols do more brand deals than variety content.

Just look at groups like: Apink, SNSD, Mamamoo, Red Velvet, i-dle, they're basically the craziest groups out there, and only SNSD has more than 7 members. Groups like SNSD would be canceled nowadays for many things they did in the past. 🤣

When you have more than 6 or 7 members, it's hard not having clicks in the group, and it doesn't feel like a real friendship anymore and that's why their chemistry is not good, like in those groups I mentioned. Not to mention, Variety contents in Korea these days are also lacking. I'm literally rewatching 2nd and 3rd gen shows, because no new show can compete with those.

It's now all about 24 member groups!

Yep, i remember when i first started getting into Kpop, i used to downplay big groups by saying how its impossible to get to know all of them, that foreign fans particularly Westerners will never get used to the idea of big groups, etc etc. I stanned Blackpink because it was super easy to tell them all apart at first glance and to get to know them via Blackpinkhouse.

Then Izone changed everything. I always overlooked Izone during 2019 (which is when i got into Kpop) and most of 2020. It was too much work to get into them and i didnt like their title songs. It took a Chaekkura video, some clips from PD48, and some Izone Chu episodes to get me hooked and then it was easy street to learn everyone's faces and personalities. It didnt hurt that they were clearly the closest group in Kpop with everyone getting along and their Vlives, fanservice vids, and variety show vids are still among the most entertaining ever. They also had megabops buried among their B sides as well.

My fave four are Minju, Eunbi, Yena and Yuri but i still try and catch everyone's content.

I will not say +7 groups are to prefer, when they are too many members it's get a bit too hard to get in to them if you not are a big fan. I mean, it took me many years to even learn a half the Girls' Generation members. Too be honest I can barely name them all today. But I can agree it can be a bit more intresting at the same time.

For me I just feel it's much harder today to like a group and it's members compared to during the 2nd generation. They just feel less charming and more...dull? More "copy paste" of the same as we have seen before.

groups, if they're lucky, usually only have one or two members that are good when it comes to variety regardless of size. i don't think that's something you can teach trainees. idle only has five members but they got a yuqi while a group like triple s has a billion but none of em really stand out in that dept. they're just alright at it

not the fact that a group has >7 or <7 members but that you just don't find certain groups interesting? obviously whether you find a group interesting is completely subjective up to your personal preferences

I'm pretty sure there might be smaller groups who do capture your interest and larger groups that don't...

And honestly, people forget or don’t even know that the Chinese members are actually doing pretty well back in China. They’re not the flops people make them out to be. And Min, the least popular member, she still had some gigs after left Jyp. It's just she didn't know how to get her name out there and market herself at all, like Minzy.

And this was after being years in the basement, and zero push from Jyp for 3 of them individually for years. And imagine if there were 7 of them instead of just 4... the ending would've been even messier for some because the gap popularity that already insane will become more bizarre.
