Can someone explain TripleS to me like I’m an idiot

  • I know there’s 24 members! But is it like NCT where they have smaller units in the group or do all 24 members perform/make music as one group :?:

What made their company debut such a large number! People struggle with 9 member groups so 24 is a bit much

Did all the members debut at once or did they add more members each comeback?

Is it a temporary group like IOI, izone, kep1er or permanent :huuh:

    Thanks!

  • 1. Group is permanent.

    2. Each member is known as S, thus there are 24S.

    3. First member, as first S is Seoyeon, she was revealed 1st May 2022.

    4. The very first eight members were revealed in just 4 months. The Grand Gravity was launched in which fans were voting which members will split into two sub-units: Acid Angel from Asia, and +(KR)ystal Eyes.

    5. Revealing new members slowed down.

    6. Later on it's basically a repeat of those moves, so adding new members, new subunits formed through gravity, new members making stage debuts etc.

    7. On 8th May 2024 the group finally made a full group debut with Assemble24 release.

    8. Then once again some new sub-units made debut.

    9. And on 12th May 2025 they've made full group comeback with Assemble25 release.

The main point is that there is Cosmo: The Gate app, and through it fans are able to make decisions. Fandom name is WAV. So each time before new album release WAV are making decision which song will be title track. There are also new drops of Objekts which are basically virtual photocards. So many times you can acquire those and collect them to have something to do between releases.

    * And about sub-units mostly they are temporary but Jaden Jeong, CEO of Modhaus said that they might bring back one of sub-units back. But overall main point is to mix members. Here is nice table from kpop fandom which shows in what sub-units members participated.

  • Amazing thanks! I will have to take my time learning each member and subunits!

I’ve watched their recent comeback performance and was surprised how many members were on a stage :!: was curious if they always had a full group comeback

  • I am deep into this group, so I can explain, so it might be a long post

I know there’s 24 members! But is it like NCT where they have smaller units in the group or do all 24 members perform/make music as one group

not too familiar NCT, but I can explain tripleS to you. Essentially there's 24 members and they have like 7+ subunits. The kicker is, the songs are not tied to the subunits and any of the memebers can perform songs that's created. This helps when they go on tour. For example they've had multiple tours where they've sent like 5-10 members, but they're able to perform any song that the subunit or if they create as collective (assemble) album. So, this provides flexibiltiy with the group and you can still enjoy the music even though a member wasn't on the subunit album.

Also, an important thing for the subunits are a lot of them are voted on by the fans. So, fan have input and power to create subunits. The way that fans get voting powers is from tokens (objekts) which allows them to have some power in selecting stuff like songs, formations, and other things. So, it's pretty interactive for fans and the group. I believe this creates loyalty and helps the group grow. Another important to note about the tokens it funds the idol directly, so if you're putting tokens towards a member they're getting a significant cut, so the members in this groups are getting paid well.

What made their company debut such a large number! People struggle with 9 member groups so 24 is a bit much

I believe this is done for creativity. It goes back to the point I was making above about flexibility and how many member can perform music. This also helps when creating formation that they have many options to choose from because not every member fits every concept, which is why popular members don't get voted on for certain subunits. I believe the idea of this group is not a traditional group but more for a collabration to connect fans with idols and creatives due to the input fans can have. I know it sounds chaotic but it has worked so far.

Did all the members debut at once or did they add more members each comeback?

From what I know they're stopping at 24 and they didn't debut at once. There's actually a chronological order in when each member debuted. members are also know S(debut number). For example Seoyeon is S01, Sohyun is S14, and S24 is Jiyeo. For debut period they did it batches

Is it a temporary group like IOI, izone, kep1er or permanent

The only thing that's temporary at the moment are the subunits. A subunit only remains if they sell a certain amount of units. I do feel the system can be a bit predatory in that it guilts fans into spending on members and albums if they want to make sure their vote counts.

  • They are kinda like NCT, but instead of having set sub-teams, they just keep creating new ones. There’s been 2 ot24 comebacks, Girls Never Die and Are you Alive, all the others have been sub-teams with various names, and none of the sub-teams have ever comeback twice (I hope Acid Angels from Asia (AAA) will get a second comeback eventually).

Because Girls Never Die was the first ot24 comeback, there was a steady stream of member debuts making it easy to get to know them.

They are my favourite group, so I really recommend you get into them. It might seem intimidating at first but I would say just ‘embrace the chaos’, you won’t know half the members, you’ll be bombarded with content (especially on YouTube), they have tons of songs (and so many great b-sides), just have fun getting to grips with it.

Thanks both! It’s interesting but must come with a lot of drawbacks? What happens if the same members are always picked for a subunit?

I watched a video about one member complaining she doesn’t have 1 Fancams despite others from the group having 10 plus and she’s been in multiple comebacks :!: (I know it’s not their companies fault) with 24 members and not every member given a chance to perform each comeback it seems like if you’re not a fan fav early on you could go unnoticed/invisible :?:

It sounds like a fun group in theory with a lot of fan interaction but is it practical to have that many members if not all are giving great promotion?

    Found the video!

So I hope it doesn’t get too stressful for the individual members to be competing against each other all the time, but I am sure it will. That being said, any other group could have members stressed out viewing fancam counts, acting opportunities or brand deals etc, it’s one of the stresses of being an idol.

StanGIDLE explained to me the other day the ‘Objekts’ system they have. These are special photocards you can either buy physically or digitally inside the cosmo app and buying a members’ specific Objekt gives them a really good cut. So the members can make a good income through this system as well as through album sales.

As a fan, you’re going to need multiple biases to enjoy the group. For example I like Nakyoung, Gong Yubin, Jiwoo, Seoyeon, Kaede and Shion, so there’s a pretty good chance of there being a few of them each comeback. There are also a handful of centre members, like an inner circle of members you see a lot:

Nakyoung, Yooyeon, Gong Yubin, Seoyeon, Dahyun, Xinyu, Sohyeon

Liking any of those members is a safe bet!

  • Yes that would make sense! In a group of 24 having 8 main biases is logical especially when they divide into new/subunits!

I’m still catching up/trying to know each member/position before deciding

I would recommend Nakyoung as a starting bias - I think she’s my top. She’s the leader/rapper plus as she is Bibi’s younger sister you get loads of fun interactions with her a Bibi

  • That's the downside of a group of this size. I think only the superfans will know all of the members. This is not the first time where a member felt left out due to getting less attention. Fancams are tricky because it's done by the fans and Modhaus can't control who fans want to broadcast. I think this is an issue with a lot of kpop groups where the popularity between members is noticeable.

I think the tricky part about the system is the whales (high spenders) have control of outcomes. If a member can't stand out, then they'll be left out of certain things. However, I do view it as the work an idol outputs can help them get results. I think spending wise the younger members will get the least attention because the older members usually get the attention.

The group is fun for the most part but there are some drawbacks. I wouldn't pay too much attention to it and just enjoy the music and content.Ideally a group shouldn't be this large imo, but it does allow flexibility to experiment with different concepts. I just hope they find ways to improve the balance but like with most groups there is always going to be some members that aren't happy with distribution and attention.

  • From my limited knowledge the OT24 comebacks will happen once a year for sure then after that promo they break up in to units.

They can have multiple units promoting at the same time. I think last year they had one in Japan and one in Korea around the same time. Others not in the units then might be doing solo work or having a break.

If you want to get to know them then I suggest watching Badge War Season 1 and Season 2. A fun variety show and you can see their personalities quite well. I think Bartkun said Season 3 is coming soon so that should be one to look out for.

With the units, Modhaus also can pick certain members to definitely be in them in addition to fans picking, so I think that would be how they will even it out sometimes.

My guess is that the less popular members will still gain something from popular member activities but it's just weighted differently to usual kpop groups. Otherwise you'll have some members in debt for life and others making bank.

My fave members at the moment are Jiyeon, Gong Yubin and Yooyeon. They are all pretty goofy off stage.

  • I think people before me have already answered your questions and they know more about the group than me that's for sure.

One thing I want to say tho is that when there are 24 members in a group it's perfectly ok to just know one or two members at the start and slowly work your way into knowing the other members as you explore the group further in your own pace. In other words, don't stress out about not knowing the members by name, it will come naturally when you get to know them better.

  • and this video is pretty good at introducing all the 24 members, it does a short introduction of every member, good screen time for all.
