This thread started as me spamming about Effie, an up and coming singer/rapper who has a Hyperpop/digicore sound - think 100 gecs, Drain Gang, Jane Remover and Skrillex.
Since then, the thread has grown to include other artists that fall under the Hyperpop umbrella. Now Hyperpop covers a vast array of sounds, and the Korean scene is no exception: Here you'll find everything from the aforementioned glitchy and distorted trap beats of Effie and System Seoul to the EDM/Bubblegum Bass sound of The Deep, to the Y2K aesthetics and liquid drum'n'bass/UK garage of Bébe Yana , iiso and Hanhee.
I've reformatted this first post to include my personal top picks and recommendations, but you'll find lots of other artists to explore listed in this thread by other uses.
Always feel free to chip in recommendations of your own, or comment about any songs you've been enjoying. The more the merrier!
My top picks:
1. Effie
Effie's sound uses a lot of distorted, chopped up, blown-out beats and production with infectious hooks and bars delivered over the top. She has some good pop sensibilities too, taking a surprising and sentimental turn on some of her tracks.
I would say she is the star of the scene now, having been featured on the official Spotify Hyperpop playlist a number of times.
The first record to check out is 'E' from earlier this year:
Here's a more recent single that is a great example of her more aggressive sound:
Effie - MORE HYPER
And here's more of a pop tune (this song has had quite a far reach too)
Effie - Down
2. System Seoul
One of the hottest acts in the Korean underground hip-hop scene right now, System Seoul is a collective of 4 rappers, sn7, hawks, ycs and MUNZi. They have a very glitchy, maxed out, hyperpop digicore sound that morphs back and forth between hip-hop and EDM and makes fun use of samples (ranging from Red Velvet to Maple Story).
System Seoul - SS
3. BÉBE YANA

Former idol (from the group Evol). Bebe Yana combines y2k aesthetics and sounds, taking influence from UK garage and Liquid drum'n'bass. If you like NewJeans, be sure to check her out, as she was doing the sound first!
BÉBE YANA (베이비 야나) - 딸기키스 (Strawberry Kisses)
4. iiso
iiso is a bit of a sonic chameleon, dabbling in a wide range of genres. One minute it's PinkPatheress style bedroom pop (Salad Days), the next it's full on post-punk (Black Diamond). Still, she has some must listen to tracks, and is certainly one to watch with both her talent and visuals.
이소 (iiso) - 'Salad Days'
The Japanese Scene
We also have a thread exploring similar artists in the Japanese music scene too:
In this thread we explore a range of new and upcoming artists in the indie Japanese music scene that blend Hyperpop, Jpop, Hip-hop and other genres. I’ve reformatted this first post to contain my top recs.
I'm having a lot of fun finding out these artists and their incredible music, so please step in to either educate me or join in the fun!
Here are my top recs:
