  • I wouldn't have been surprised if none of them renewed. That being said, it's interesting to see who didn't and now I'm kind of wondering why.

Not entirely sure why Arin would leave, given the success she's already managed to have as an actress under WM, but I also don't know the ins & outs of her decision, so I can only speculate.

I wish YooA would continue to pursue her musical career instead of also going into acting, especially since she's the only one currently with any solo prospects, but it is what it is. I guess she also came to the conclusion that WM couldn't properly manage her career on that front.

I imagine OMG's time as an active group is predictably coming to an end, despite the members vowing to remain together. We'll probably see them again at some point, but when and how often is anyone's guess. My other concern is that even if they're still booked to perform going forward, YooA & Arin might not even show up. Arin has already missed a number of performances as is due to her acting gigs.

    :pepe-sad:

  • When did you and StanGIDLE become such huge OMG fans? I literally thought i was the only OMG fan on this forum.

But you are right on the money about OMG fading into history. Every group that does this, where members leave but supposedly promise to continue to reunite for group activities, ends up defacto disbanded. This happened to MMM, Got7, Gfriend, Blackpink, RV and now OMG.

My guess is even if you add up all the fully promoted comebacks of all of these groups over the next five years, you wont need more than one hand to do it. And all of them will likely flop esp relative to their previous successes. Even when just Jiho left, that began OMG's steep decline from the top of the charts, same as what happened when Wheein left MMM.

I'm saddened to see this about OMG tbh. I stan them just for their older songs and Yooa but it's still sad. And i dont see where Yooa is getting these notions of being an actress. She has never indicated this afaik, she was always first and foremost a dancer, the best in the entire 3rd gen tbh. Maybe she's being influenced by the massive success of my Izone actress line and thinks it's gonna be easy street to go viral like Hyewon, win rookie awards like Minju, star in the biggest Netflix shows like Yuri...but i think the odds are massively stacked against her.

As an aside, Twice is literally the last of the great 3rd gen GGs still standing. Pretty amazing to think about.

  • I was also a big fan back in the day, especially 2016 when you had Step by Step, Liar Liar and Windy Day, what a set of songs.

    They had a good run!

Seriously underrated songs, some of the best cutesy songs ever made. I thought Twice were the Queens of Cutesy but OMG (and Izone B sides) make it a 3 way race tbh.

Remember Me, A-Ing, Secret Garden, Closer, Cupid are some other megabops.

  • It's been long time and this is still better news than disbandment info. Pretty sure now it means that Arin and YooA don't need to show up for every concert, and probably also they will take more money from any potential acting, fashion fig etc

  • I'm a huge fan of them.

With the current trend in kpop it most likely means this is it for them. Their company isn't in the best situation and I assume it will be hard to schedule around all of the members. I didn't know YooA was going to attempt acting and I viewed her more as an artist. It was best for her to leave because WM can't fully support her solo career. I didn't like how they handled her promotions and they missed an opportunity to build her as a soloist. Arin leaving was a given because she's getting some major roles and she most likely leaves for a better company to handle her acting career.

I am honestly shocked that Mimi stayed and didn't leave for a company to handle her varieties. I guess it makes sense to stay because there's no point leaving if things are going well.

Unsure where people will rank them among 3rd gen groups but they're easily a top 5 group for me.Their discography has a lot of variety and I think they adjusted well with the landscape changing. Hope for the best for all members

Side note: It seems interesting that Jiho is posting on IG again. Nice to see she's doing better

  • I don't know why or from where YooA suddenly got the acting bug, but I suspect it's a bit too late for her to make that transition. We'll see I guess. I selfishly don't really want it to work out, as I have zero interest in Kdramas, and she's probably the last hope for anyone from this group actually staying active in music, at least outside of OST type stuff.

I think their decline overlapped somewhat with Jiho's departure, but I don't think they were directly related. Whether it was due to WM losing interest in them or the members themselves shuffling their priorities, the fact that they were starting to do only one comeback a year even with Jiho, instead of striking while the iron was hot and capitalizing on their sudden popularity, is what triggered their decline. And you know it's bad when they don't even perform their most recent songs once the initial promotions end.

I know they're still popular on the festival scene, which is probably the only hope for seeing them together outside of the very infrequent release, but I'm afraid that won't remain the case if there's no guarantee that those two will even be there. Assuming the other members even want to keep performing somewhat regularly, they'll probably lose bookings over it.

They were already in situation in the past when Seunghee wasn't present on stage because she was filming dramas

and overall it seemed like they were more in 'rotation' to be sure that 5 members are on stage, and sometimes YooA wasn't there, sometimes Arin wasn't there, etc.

So I think they will continue to do the same for some city and university festivals but this time maybe even in smaller squad

it feels kind of same like APink who nowadays often performs as 4 members due to schedule conflicts

I agree completely about Yooa. She's been shooting up my bias chart even as i've complained bitterly and selfishly about the way she's changed her visuals over the years like her noticeable weight loss.

But now i understand it more. If she truly was planning to make a career change, i could see her trying to fit the actress aesthetic (i saw that happen to some of my Izone girls) which i can't stand tbh.

I still love her stage presence, dance, and the few varieties she's been on. But turning into an actress means she'll be disappearing from public view even more than OMG has already. I've been going through it with Minju and it's no fun.

  • Jiho has literally disappeared from the public since she left to become an "actress".

As for OMG's rank, they are right there with BP and Twice in terms of quality and depth of discography. I would consider them the Big 3 of Kpop in pure song quality. OMG has probably no less than 10 songs that i would consider a 9 or 10. Their choreo is cute and fun as hell too, very underrated.

In terms of overall popularity among 3rd gen groups, they are probably 4th or 5th behind Twice, BP and RV. The 4th spot is either them or Mamamoo.
