is new jeans a legacy group?

a serious question because this word has been used for some groups on discussions and I think there is some bias and I have to say I wasn't so t familiar with this term until last year

but for new jeans wouldn't this apply in that case? so do they fit the criteria? they announced they are on hiatus + they have a name change and are starting all over

so their old achievements would stay with new jeans not NJZ legally those can be transferred to their new group

Blackpink is not a "legacy group" nor is New Jeans. Legacy groups are groups that have been around for over a decade and left a big mark.. Neither is at the active years mark yet... SNSD did not become a "legacy" until 2018. So, everyone needs to stop being so quick to call groups old and "has beens". It is especially frustrating because these convos ONLY happen around female groups.

Also OP this is not a shot at you, I know this is a response to people being ignorant.

Man I need that lady to not be allowed to make groups... like for real. The way she describes anyone who is an adult as "too old" to perform is gross and weird. I felt the same when YHS called SoRi too old to be an active performer when she was 25..

people keep saying that blackpink is. a legacy group since 2023 and I'm like why it's not like bp doesn't take long hiatuses so I wanted to use their logic. Blackpink is coming this year and is still seen that way regardless of their members breaking new records.

I'd say the 3rd gen groups who are still standing with a large fan base (BTS, BP, Twice, SVT) are well on their way to being legacy groups. Not that they're going to lose relevancy, but rather that their impact is mostly set in stone.

We all know why you did this but no they aren't ...yet :

- The members are still sign under the same company

- their last comeback was just a few months ago

- their last performance as a group was just a few days ago

- and the members are still focusing on group activities and not solo stuff

SNSD was consider a legacy group when each member decided to go on their own way to follow their solo career and took them years to make a comeback as a group and didn't have any group performance during their hiatus

That I agree to, which is why I mentioned them not being old enough for the legacy label yet.

A legacy act is an act that relies on their legacy, ie their past music, to maintain relevancy in certain spaces, such as touring, rather than on releasing new, popular music. NewJeans don't tour and their previous music is only keeping them relevant on Korean charts, nowhere else. There's no telling how much longer that will last, especially if public favor continues to turn on them. They simply don't have the tenure yet to be considered a legacy act long-term. They either find their way out of the woods and start getting some new hits or they'll be remembered as a flash in the pan.
