Which of the new girl groups will be the first to have a true SMASH hit song?

It's going to be BABYMONSTER. And to think, someone on this forum said they would be the NMIXX of YG. An utterance I will never forget.

I wouldn't put Illit in this thread, because even with the dissapointing results they got from Cherish, Magnetic did took the world over, so they have an advantage or simply aren't comparable to their piers in this specific matter.

Aside from Illit, my money is on Babymonster and KiiiKiii comes in a very close second.

BM got the hype even though their growth has been modest since debut. KiiiKiii is showing good numbers in domestic charts, even better than BM. However, KK does not have the Big4 push. BM tours and have been collecting fans all over, they are on the verge of releasing a smash hit and I can't waaaaait!

And who knows, Kk could be next!

I will be bold and say none of the groups listed will meet the op criteria in 2025.

Blackpink comeback will steal attention from these groups. Then the current top 4th gen groups will steal shine from them. The only smash hit form 5th gen last year was magnetic and possibly Sticky. Other than those 2 songs I can't remember a song from these groups that meets OP's criteria

For argument sake my wildcard pick would be Qwer. They might not be big among international fans but they had 2 singles ("TBH" and " My Name Is Malguem" that peaked in the top 5 in 2024.

Maybe H2H coz they really give me SNSD vibes.

I think they've had the best charting SM gg debut song, a good sign.

And almost all SM gg's have eventually had a smash, actually multiple tbh.

since Treasure's debut, the most noticeable thing has been YG losing its consistency in producing hit songs. On the other hand, SM is a company that has always managed to include at least one hit song in every girl group it has debuted. That's why my vote goes to H2H. However, even though Illit's latest song wasn't a major hit, being part of a big company gives them the potential to come back with another successful song. anyway fingers crossed for bm.

My hope is izna! Tune in to their comeback on the 31st!

BM or KiiiKiii seem most likely

BM has all the momentum and I think they keep releasing better and better songs so maybe YG is figuring something out. KiiiKiii had such a strong start and Starship has somewhat of track record. I liked H2H debut but I have little faith in SM not fucking it up somehow.

ILLIT could also reverse the trend if HYBE pulls out another Magnetic, but it's not looking too great atm.

Tbh people said the same about H2H being the Nmixx for SM! do not take any of it seriously They just want to see big4 groups fail So badly

Girls peaked at number 8 on melon, and Illusion had better longevity compared to girls.
