What would be your dream concept for a new Idol Variety Show?

  • 11 gay male idols and 1 straight male idol in a house. The object is to find out who isn't gay. Once a week someone gets voted out until 2 are left. Or the straight male is out. If the gays manage to out him they win a LV global ambassador deal for 1 year. If the straight idol is among the last 2. He gets LV and a suju Cf.

Plot twist.none of them are gay. They all think they are the one straight male.

    Show name : drama Queen's.

    i would watch this, lowkey

and it should be called Drama QueenZ :meme-oh-yes:

  • Rofl, stop digging in my brain! ^^

I saw the title and I immediately thought, 'an Invincible Youth reboot would be iconic', and then I read your first post.

I think it would still be great: to see idols from various groups put together, and having to interact and get to know eachother. But then more like season 1, what season 1 did better was that the activities were more coordinated and embedded into the life and people of a small town in SK. Aside from learning more about the idols and the groups they belong to, Invincible Youth also showed me a lot of Korean culture, habits and life in general outside of the big cities, in the rural areas of SK. It made me appreciate Kimchi and other Korean food too.

That's what I really admired and appreciated about variety shows in 2nd gen times, due to a bigger involvement and interactions of idols of many groups into many of the variety shows, not only was it great idol entertainment, you'd also get to learn more about SK and Koreans themselves. Nowadays the K-pop idol scene feels far more separate from Korean main culture and tv, and more focused on outside SK.

... as a 2nd option, a mixed group of idols in continuing escape room settings, with an overall mystery theme or 'whodunnit' or who is the mole theme would be interesting too.

  • IY is the golden standard for idol variety shows. I didn't even watch it as it aired. It was maybe 3-4 years after it finished that I went back and watched it, based on the reverence the K-Pop community treated it with.

I also enjoy programs that let you watch your idols have fun while they themselves get to participate in a culturally enriching experience

Something similar was debut NewJeans doing a show called Code in Busan

It was nice to learn about the city of Busan outside of that movie about the Train to Busan

I also loved the first season of Queendom. Or rather, if you could just remove the competitive aspects entirely and made it just a show about girl groups giving and creating stages together, it would be perfect.

Probably the most unique concept of the past decade was the show Idol Drama Operation Team

Watching idols have to create and then even ACT their own drama was great television. And it gave us an actual bop too

  • A Variety Show with senior Idols as Judges, and Kpop agency CEO's as trainees have to live in a small dorm and doing what Idols have to all the time.

    Now, imagine the uproar. :pepe-pitchfork::pepe-popcorn::pepe-toast:

  • A show where rookies and older groups interact, maybe even in a way that it could be used with that half of the artists are unknown/lesser famous groups and the other half are the very well known

For example you place Stray Kids, TWICE, NCT 127 in a room with IDK a older group who is almost not famous, IDK maybe someone like VANNER and than the rookie groups Kickflip and Kiiikii and someone else who is almost not famous as rookie and than let them mix up (not be in their groups) and play games against eachother and than see what team wins. Example you could IDK put Felix, Changbin, Johnny, Mark, the youngest of both rookie groups in 1 team and than 2 other teams and they have to do a lot stuff in different tasks in order to try to win

Or a show where you put Japanese and Korean groups in a room and let them interact like they get asked stuff about the differences of their fandoms, how being an idol works in both countries, get asked if they did concerts oversea or if they would like to, how it went overseas if they have, how they work like how many hours a day they train, how much freetime they got,... and other things and at the end they do random things like cooking a Japanese meal for the Korean group or the other way around or play a fun game together that is famous in 1 country and so they need to introduce the other group to it etc etc. (Makes me think of that video I saw recently where Hiroto of Mrs. GREEN APPLE went to Korea and spend time with ENHYPEN where they ended up playing guitar together)

  • maybe a karaoke show? like a singing based variety but more fun and between different artists.

then it becomes a cooking show and the loser has to cook for everyone. preferably in his house? (maybe not)

and they do some silly games in between to see who will do the dishes or smth.

something natural and convivial. boys and girls.

or maybe a traveling show with challenges and there are different teams composed from various people; idk.

oh wait maybe a culinary traveling show? idk :pepecute: ...

  • Idol Swap

If you've ever seen Wife Swap, same concept. Take 2 members from 2 groups promoting at the same time, of the same position (most popular, main vocal, dancer, rapper) and swap them out for two weeks of promotion

Oh I like this. The bigger the gap between the concepts the better the swap.

Reminds me of when MMM and GFRIEND did a Rough/You're The Best swap, except it wouldn't be the entire group but a couple members for your concept, and they would actually promote together
