  • What is that person on about? I'm not going to share the rest of what they posted, but it seems like chronically online behavior.

In reality, you'd still see happy couples everywhere in the world.

Also, I find it questionable whenever Americans say some ethnic group of people are worse when it comes to some sort of -ism. It seems like a cheap tactic to deflect.

If they want to play that game, I can talk about how there's plenty of American music that's misogynistic and objectifying towards women, and that music is even played on mainstream radio.

  • Are you korean? btw, i saw pictures of male Koreans sitting in the seats appointed for pregnant woman, posting for Korean women. That thing is real.

I'm not. I just find it questionable when western media push that "dark side of K-pop" or "dark side of South Korea" agenda. They don't really have the best intentions. They just hate the fact that Korea is doing well in certain things, so they want to "expose" Korea by highlighting the bits and pieces and that make the country look bad.

I won't disagree with you. What you described is awful.

I just don't think it's necessary for that one X user to make the comparison. It seems like they have ulterior motives.

  • Ok. I guess the 4b movement and the low-rate birth don't have nothing to do with how awful are Korean mysoginist men.
Btw, dont worry, americans choosing a rapist instead of a woman for president puts them very close to Korea on the pondium of the misogyny.

  • Ok. I guess the 4b movement and the low-rate birth don't have nothing to do with how awful are Korean mysoginist men.

Don't get me wrong. Misogynistic men, Korean or not, are awful indeed. I want people to be genuinely concerned for South Korea, not this "hahaha, look at this awful country, yet you K-boos still glorify K-pop and Korean people" agenda some westerners are pushing.

I've openly criticized some societal problems of Korea, but I did it because I care about the culture and people's well-being, not because I'm hating on a country due to envy.

For me the comparison is valid, there is a point there.
Btw, Western media don't need to have an agenda (maybe some media have) to show the dark side of korea. We just have to look carefully to see it.

  • Is like we do here with kpop groups, but this time with Misogyny.

yeah but at least with kpop groups people (try to) bring the data and metrics and criteria (even if I have to continually harp on it)

    how does one compare Misogyny????

like in my country we force women of child age to marry old men

but in my country we prevent women from working

but in my country we force women to carry babies to term even if they miscarry

  • wait, you moved to the US?

Why didn't you tell me #sadface

  • We can discusse what place is worse. I mean, you wouldn't be so naive to think misogyny is at the same level in every country, right?

  • Don't get me wrong. Misogynistic men, Korean or not, are awful indeed. I want people to be genuinely concerned for South Korea, not this "hahaha, look at this awful country, yet you K-boos still glorify K-pop and Korean people" agenda some westerners are pushing.

Yeah most of this is agenda pushing echo chamber behavior they see the actions of a small minority of people and instantly assume it's the default for the country and the majority of its people. Ya know if this happened in a western country you'd get cancelled for some sort of ism. But since it's a foreign Asian country it's ok. Hmm the hypocrisy is real. Also funny how some people keep blaming this one subject as the reason for negative birthrates it's NOT. There's like 5 other things a hundred times more important than this that's the primary driver for this in the country plus a few other nearby Asian countries suffering from the same if not worse birthrates problems yet this one thing isn't the boogyman there hmm I wonder why?

  • Comparing. It was having fun in a very perverse sense. Like people who watch car accidents for fun.

This was what I meant by people who have ulterior motives when they criticize a society or country. They see it as entertainment instead of actually wanting things to get better.

The Internet has turned everything, including key issues, into a show.

  • Not really. When a car accident happen people come to look. Is the human nature

I would rush in to give first aid, not to watch.

    Maybe humans need more training.

    But to not derail.

It is an issue in a lot of countries, where women are treated pretty much as less than property.

Make kids, make food, shut up....basically.

I believe it is wrong. But majority is starting to have another go at me being wrong.

  • We can discusse what place is worse. I mean, you wouldn't be so naive to think misogyny is at the same level in every country.

    of course not my friend

but I guess my point was - what is the point of pointing out the levels of toxicity in every country? like doesn't that just make one sad for humanity

I mean there are still cases where parents abort children in China for being girls

there are still cases (rarer) where parents will abandon their baby daughters

    what's the point of all

I come to AKP for the kpop music and discussions (HAHAHAHAHA)

Oh, superyeah. You are too pure for internet.

  • I can't emphasize how much I'm not defending Korean men but American men hate on pregnant women too.

There was a cute little trend of women slipping bills into the sides of diaper boxes or under formula lids as a show of support. Then men found out, thought "what about us" and would go into stores and tear up baby merchandise.

When it comes to the birthrate issue, I feel like people oversimplify it to just men and women not getting along, but it's more than that.

The truth is that men and women in Japan and South Korea are overwhelmed and overworked. They don't want to be procreating and raising children if they have more than enough things going on in their lives.

The West wants people to reproduce like crazy even if they're not ready to be parents. Raising a child is expensive, and I think a lot of Westerners feel they're entitled to having a child even if they're not in the right headspace or financial situation to be a parent.

    damn it where's my bills???

I've bought hundreds if not thousands of diapers/formulae and not only have I not seen a single bill I've paid far more bills to obtain such items

My parents raised my arse during communist Romania.

    We're talking 1981 to 1989.

I had to stay in line for milk at 6 years old coz dad had to go to the factory.

But then again, they only had 1 and done.

I have no idea what the right way is tbh.
